Good morning, folks: I am rebuilding a Willy Roberts Slo Poke 15 currently. It's a sweet little project. I just finished a steering wheel wrap on it with parachord. My question is: I can imagine that from fishing and running the skiff, the cloth like material of the parachord will eventually become dirty and grimy. I will clean it of course, but I would like it to last.
I am considering using epoxy (RAKA 2 part) to "wet out" the wrap. I can mix it WITHOUT any micro balloons or faring compound or cabosil, and "paint" it on/ over the parachord for longevity. My concern is would it be too stiff and uncomfortable under my fingers while running the skiff and also will it do what I intend in protecting the parachord from becoming nasty? What do the experts say? Heres a couple pics for reference of my project:

Steve, Yes I agree. The epoxy would yellow over time and be distasteful. I decided to just leave it alone as is. It feels great currently beneath my fingers especially w the speed knob I added.
Worse case scenario, I spend another $7 in a couple years and redo it. It took me about an hours time to complete.
Thanks for your contribution, Sir.

Possibly spray some scotch guard on it to protect it from getting dirty

right-e-o. That would be the only other option I believe: scotch-guard or leave it… I'm going to run the skiff like this for a while. If it becomes a problem, I'll redo it with a darker color AND scotch guard it. Thanks Kidfreediver: I always appreciate your posts on various boating/ fishing forums.

thank you for the compliment and great job on the wrap. It's nice to see others personalizing there rigs with intuitive ideas. I think that will work well and I love the suicide handle.

Plasti-dip! :) Actually I'm kidding. I'd just leave it and plan to re-do it each season or so. I know if it was the wheel in my Parker it would get nasty so fast I'd be re-doing it monthly. He other thing to consider is that it will retain saltwater and could cause corrosion

Ive fished the skiff 3 times since wrapping the wheel. Ive had plenty of blood and guts and fish slime on the deck, my hands, etc.. I found that my boat soap on a soft bristle brush cleans the parachord up perfectly and does not retain dirt, grime or slime. At this point, the "do nothing wait watch and see" technique seems to be a success.
