What do you guys think about putting twin 300's on a 2520 XLD? I'm considering doing this to mine since I often drive 60+ miles offshore and on many of those flat calm days I wish I could be cruising in the mid 40's but realize I can only do 30mph on my twin 200s (top speed low to mid 40s). I hear the 2820XLD guys with twin 300's are hitting 55-59mph max speed and can cruise in the low 40s.
The max rating on Parker's website for the 2520xld is 500hp. That would equate to twin 250's. I tried to get my local Parker dealer to power my 2520xld with twin 250's from the factory but he said he couldn't do it even if he wanted to. Parker just won't install any more than twin 200's on a 2520XLD. The difference in weights between a twin 300 and a twin 200 is an additional 136lbs. I have read some guys on the forums installing twin 250's without any problem.
Since the Yamaha 225, 250, and 300's all weigh exactly the same, what's stopping them to allow us to power twin 300s? Is it not fuel efficient? Is it not safe? Will the bracket not handle the extra power? 2520XLD weighs 5800lbs. 2801CC weighs 5000lbs and has 600 max hp rating. 2820XLD weighs 6400lbs at 600hp max rating. Can anybody explain why this is so?
