Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here considered a Steiger Craft when looking to purchase there Parker. If so why did you go with Parker over the Craft. I'm interested in the 23 CCdv Parker but I'm consisdering the 23 CC Steiger Craft. Any imput is appreciated. Thanks

I was actually looking for a Steigercraft back in 2002/2003 when I found my Parker.
What I liked about the Steiger as the open-back pilothouse.
Imagine my surprise when I found a Parker with that same option!

I was a lucky guy!

I'll bet that CP member Hugs Tugs checks in soon.

I own a Steiger Craft Block Island 23 that I bought used. (I truly am an interloper on this forum!) I might have bought a used Parker or C-Hawk if I had found one at a good price; however, there were some aspects of the construction of a Steiger that gave me greater confidence in buying one used. The inside surfaces of the cabins of Steigers are gelcoated, not carpet. Since 1996, the cockpit decks of Steigers have been solid fiberglass, not wood cored. Steigers do have wood cores in the transom and the side decks, but these don't seem quite as prone to rot as cockpit decks. Also, I had decided that I was better off with an express/walk around type as the boat would be used primarily as a family cruiser. I thought that Steiger had the best design for this type.

The one thing that I enjoyed about purchasing a Steiger is that you can have whatever you want done to the boat during the build.
Granted you cannot change the deadrise but anything else wanted is doable. I find the 19 degree a perfect angle for the type of fishing that I do. A nice mix between the Parker 16 and 21 degree deadrises.
Al Steiger is a gentleman to deal with. if you can visit the factory and speak to him.
Where are you located?

Just my $0.02 worth.
Good luck in your quest
Tom

I'd be interested to hear if any members of this forum have experience with panga types.

I've been to a couple of boat shows where I have been intrigued by the pangas from various manufacturers. I have seen pangas operating as commercial fishing boats in Mexico and I understand that they are nearly universal in the far east. Compared to a conventinal center console, they have more bow flare, are narrower, and are designed for lower horsepower. They also have fairly small draft. A lot of them are not self bailing. The following are a few manufacturers:
