Thanks for all the help on my previous post about no reverse and no neutral on the ox66. I am excited to be repowering with a new 4 stroke F250 with the command link system.

It made more economic sense to replace the foot on the old motor but I have been interested in the 4 strokes for a while so I decided to go for it. This is going on the notch transom of my 2310 DV WA. I will initially take the Parker recommendation to use my old 17T (black ss 15/17) prop and see how it performs but hope to try a rev4 or powertech as well. Most of the posts on those appear to be on bracket boats so I don't know if they apply as well to mine.

This means I do have the old motor available to sell if anyone is interested. I would like to net $2000 without the foot. If no one is interested I will trade in to the installer I guess. 1999 Yam 225 OX66.

Wait until you go trolling. You will wonder how you ever lived without it.

my black ss was only 13 3/8 by 19. spun up good but suffered under load. youll love the new 250

she will move along right smartly too w/ the 250 8) ENJOY!!!

I picked up the boat with the new motor on Friday. The f 250 runs great,
has more power, is more fuel efficient, and is much quieter. The command link guages and controls are also very good. Very smooth throttle and shift control.

I reused my black ss prop from the ox66 and so far it works well. Top end is 40 to 41 MPH and revs up to 6000rpm. Cruises at 35mph getting about 2.6mpg. 30 mph cruise gets a little better maybe 2.7 @ 4600 rpm.

The boat doesn't like to stay on plane without tabs below about 3900 rpm. Might do better with a 4 blade. What do you think?

I have he same quandry with my ox 66 . Just blew the lower unit and am trying to decide on going with a F250 or repairing the ox66.

If I'm not being rude , what did the engine cost you?

I got a quote for 23k + tax installed with new controls and gauges

I'd better check the dealer that I'm using. He quoted me $2900 for a new lower unit and 23k for a new F250.

I'm hearing way lower prices here

WoW! I just looked up the price for a new lower unit and it was $2,600 ish 4 years ago i got a new one for around $1,500, talk about rising prices!

Striperswiper, sorry for the late reply. Haven't been on the site lately. The least expensive lower unit I know of is an aftermarket one from SEI (stern drive engineering) for about $800 new and complete with waterpump and 3 year waranty. I was very tempted to go that route.

I found new F250s on boats.net from Central Florida Yamaha for $15000 plus shipping costs. My local mechanic got me one from a dealer for the same price. I also paid another $2000 for the new command link guages and control system, connections etc. Installation varies somewhere around $1000 more or less.

I am very pleased with the F250. Mutch better performance all around than my ox66. I recommend the new motor if you can convince yourself to part with the cash. I say enjoy it while you can.

I think I'll have this one repaired then repower after the striper season and trade in the ox66.

I talked with several members of this site by phone and I can get a new F250 installed with a trade for around 17k.

I'm also putting in a second station so I'll get all new controls x2 and be set for the rest of the boats expected life.

Thanks for all you help
Capt Brian

The F250 is a superb engine. I've had mine since November '05.
The first trip, I stopped to drift and came out of the wheel house and my friend said, I know you like your new engine, but don't you think you should turn it off? The "quiet" is awesome.
Also, I came up with system to eliminate starting an already running engine and hearing the starter shriek. Now, I always look at my tach before turning the key. Hope this tip is of help and good luck with your new F250.
