I have a 2510 dv and would like to repower. I can get a great deal on a Suzuki 4 stroke 300. Does any one have this set up?Any info on the motor? Thanks, Mike

not anyone with a parker but my buddies who have repowered with the Suzuki like the engines hp, but only have two complaints ,TOO loud,rephrase....louder than expected, !!!!

Gas economy was not what the thought it was going to be..

So far they r glad they saved the $3k ...

But apparently a few thousand cheeper.....

I am also told by one friend that getting parts in season is difficult ???

I think i remember Dale saying he was going to get a Suzuki, I wonder if he ever sat next to one while it was running.

I think id go for the efficiency and proven overall of a Yammie , if you repower a boat you r KEEPING more than 3-5 years you are only saving a couple of hundred per year if you account for the 20% less on fuel !!!

All be it to me ... I am not preaching just repeating what i have been told !!!

Thanks Guys for the info. I have a yamaha ox66 250 now so I think the noise has to be less then that.

Personally I love the growl of the Suzis on the boats I've been on. But to me, I think the 250hp is the better choice. Someone here did repower with a 300hp, but I don't recall any of us being impressed with the speed or fuel efficiency. But, a Suzi 250hp will out-perform a Yam F250, unless the Yam uses 91 octane fuel, as with 87 ... she's barely a 236hp motor.

Does Evinrude make an Etec in a 300 hp version?

I ran a 250 Etec last year and I was surprised at how quiet it was, even at cruise speed.
It was definitely quieter than the 250 Zuke that I ran on the same exact boat that same year.

Both are good motors, but in a heads-up comparison, I'd give the nod to the Etec on torque and sound.

Yamaha recommends pump grade 89 octane for thier F-250 and the new 4.2 liter Yamaha 250/300 HP V-6 Offshore motors.

No big deal as "recreational gas" sold without ethanol is 89 or mid-grade anyway.
True in some places. Nothing but 87 up here, less places that serve Val-tec additive fuels. I think for some it could be a regional thing. Either Suz or Yam 250hp would be good motors, I'm just disappointed from what I've read about the 300s ... and I cudda had one last year for only $14K!

Judging from what everyone who has the suzuki says about them and the performance reports Ive read the suzuki would be a better match for the Parker hull since the suzuki usually sping larger diameter props and isnt as fast top end as the Yamaha but has more low end power. Which would be great for these boats.

Somewhere on ClassicParker there is a thread about a guy repowering with a Suzuki 300hp. (on a 25' DV)

I remember not being at all impressed with the fuel economy.

If i was you, I'd wait for the small block Yamaha 300hp to be available.

I can get the 300 for 12k and he is giving me 5k on a trade, so 7k I am into a new 300 with 6 year warranty.

I think "Ed's Marine" sells that Suzuki for around $17,000.

$17,750 @ Ed's ... could be had for $14K last Summer ... too bad the economy tanked :( .

I'm happy with the hpdi, and I would by yammy again, in fact if my hpdi blew up this year, I would not hesitate to rebuild the powerhead, but im pretty sure for 7k i'd have trouble turning down a zuke. christ you got me thinking if he'd want my HPDI as a trade in.

hrmf...my boat is paid off, maybe its time to get into another payment book! haha

as for the the offshore series... ME WANT COMMANDLINK ...

the quietest engine i've ever been around by far is the verados at idle. I was on the boat and i literally couldnt hear the 275.

Just for a little more info.. My builder sells Zuke and Honda as standard power. Zukes are louder at cruise and less fuel efficient. (at 25mph with a 225 Honda the fuel burn is about 8gph even in calm water. at the same speed a 25o zuke is burning a hair over 9gph). The zuke does top out 3-4 mph faster though. Unless you are one that spends the time at the top of the rpm band, you dont notice a difference.

when pricing the motors, also get rigging costs as the digital controls on the zuke 300 are a lot more than the standard controls of the 250. If you are going zuke and price is a concern, price out the 250 as well.
