I read the manual, FILLED UP TANK (145 gal @ 4.02 a gal) BECAUSE, according to the manual, you can't reset the tank capacity and fuel remaining unless you have a full tank. Well, I followed the instructions but I could not find the tank capacity item in any of the menus much less find the fuel remaining display. All I get is Fuel Economy (mpg) and Total miles. I do have a linear gauge that shows how much fuel I have, but I was expecting a numeric display, like "27 gal remaining".

Anyone familiar with this stupid system. :x

2006 2520 SC XL.

Which gauge do you have? There are two square guages, one is just fuel and you can set the gals, the other is speed/fuel and it will only read fuel used (ttl) and a bar guage. Sounds like you are describing the speed/fuel gauge. The manual is a little confusing in that regard.

That's assuming of course that you have the square command link gauges as opposed to the round.

I have the square command link gauges and the one specifically that I am talking about is the combo, speed/fuel gauge

You cannot set tank capacity on the speed/fuel combo gauge. You can do it only on the non combo "FUEL" gauge which we don't have.

FYI: The TTL (total fuel used) so far has been VERY accurate. Recently filled up (150 gal) and reset TTL. Burned 106 gal per TTL on MG trip and filled up again and it took 106.3 gal---not bad.

Quess that about covers that. Your gauge calculates fuel capacity automatically.

I went through the same thing you went through until I figured out the book was refering to two completly differant gauges.

I thought I was the only one confused by that.

Have to agree with the accuracy part. I tested mine on a full tank and also refilled it to within 3 tenths of a gal from what the gauge reported.

OK. So we can come to the same conclusion in a different way. If the TTL is total fuel used (106g) and you know you have 150g at start of trip, then you know you have 44g remaining. ..and if you're burning 2gpm then you can run another 22 miles before you're on fumes.

The only variable is fuel at start, because unless you top it off on every trip, you really don't know exactly how much fuel you have in the tank. Or am I missing something?

Seems to me you would only have to top off one time to get your benchmark. Then you have a full tank to start with. After that you could see the gallons you bought (assuming you do not fill up next time) and the gallons you used since your last purchase which should be close.

I just use the bars and find them accurate once I got used to how they function. I came in with nearly an empty tank and wrote down how many gallons to each bar till full. Now I just glance at the bars and know fairly close what I will need to fill.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pete

"Accurate" I see that word a lot when referencing the Yammi gauges.
Glad to see that.

I'll play with it a bit. I have 10 "bars" so i figure each bar is about 17 gallons. Between that and the TTL displays, I should be just fine. I just thought the digital fuel remaining display was kinda cool.

I am not so sure I would rely on those fuel bars. The last one does blink before tank is completely empty.

My best recommendation would be to keep a simple fuel log.

Don't think that you are the only one confused by this issue. Fishfactory in another post said there was an article in one of the popular fishing magazines about this.

I dont quite trust the bars either. Mine shows all the bars until I'm about 20 gal down.

The fuel log is about the best option. Its easy to calculate fuel remaining when you start out full and know what you've used. When one stops to think about it even the TTL feature alone is better then most standard fuel guages that read in 1/4 tank increments.

I always fill my boat whenever I get fuel, and then I reset the total fuel used to zero. I have found the gauge to be extremely accurate whenever re-fueling as to how much fuel I have burned. FWIW, my "bars" on the fuel gauge are really unreliable. It seems that they stay "full" until I burn a half a tank, then they start clicking down. The gauge / in combo with my logbook is really good at tracking my consumption, and the flow meter really helps get the economy of the boat dialed in to the best speed / burn ratio.

I also believe that the Command link automatically subtracts 15 gallons from the tank gauges as reserve. At least i am pretty sure i have read that in my manual.

Press set and mode at the same time and the TTL will reset to zero. They are pretty accurate, but I notice when I am out for the day trolling the go a bit off, sometimes as much as 4-6 gallons on a 50 gallon burn.
