fyi, i received the following response from noaa on the unusual high tides tides we have been having. i thought it was the chesapeake only-- nada. should have asked about the wind too, its been blowing for 2 months. a1 gore is responsible, i think.

here ya go!

Dear Capt. John Deering,

Your message has been forwarded to my address for response.

Starting in early June 2009, observed tides have been increasingly
elevated above predicted tidal elevations along the entire U.S. East
Coast from Maine to the east coast of Florida. During the week of June
21 for instance, these water levels were running between 0.6 to 2.0 feet
above normal depending upon location. As of June 26, these anomalies
continue, but running lower at 0.3 to 1.0 ft. above normal. It is not
unusual for smaller regions and estuaries along the U.S. East Coast to
experience this type of anomalous event at this time of year, however
the fact that the geographic extent of this event that includes the
entire East Coast event is unusual. CO-OPS will continue to monitor
this event and will provide further information on the causes,
amplitudes, geographic extent, and the duration of the event.

In many cases of anomalous water levels, we can measure and monitor the
event, but often cannot provide a "reason" for its occurrence until the
event ends.
At this point, the theory is that a large, strong, and stationary high
pressure system located off the US East Coast is creating these
anomalous water levels.

Interesting...

I was in Tilghman this past week and passed through Knapps Narrows to go up the 'tank on Thursday.
I've passed under that draw dozens of times over the past 5 years I've taken my boat down there, and I've never ever had an issue going under that bridge.

Well, on Thursday as I passed under the bridge, my VHF antenna started whacking the bridge superstructure and ended up breaking the antenna.
Talk about being bummed. :(

For a week or 2 by me, it seemed like there were 2 tides whenever I looked, high and extra high. Water has been going out a bit more lately. I agree, we had a ton of easterly winds which helped hold the water in the bays, at least near us.

I just came from my boat, and the tide is probably 2' above a normal high.

Not sure how George melted that ice, bit it's having an effect... :(

Maybe the new printing presses in Washington D.C. and the umteen trillions of dollars they are printing are depressing the Continental Shelf.

This is what it looked like today when I left the boat.
The docks here were replaced this past winter and were raised 1.5'.

If this were last year, the docks would be very close to being under water.

There was a thread recently over at THT. Documents released explaining how NOAA scientists could/should use their positions to push "global warming" agenda.

CHANGE,

yup

How could believe anything posted to THT?
