Anyone have any issues with the handles and headroom situation w/ your rigger mounts in the cabin? I am really up in the air w/ the mounts.
Are the wishbones in the way? Top mounts easy to rig?
Taking all opinions. Been hunting the search feature for the handle/headroom topic in the cabin, no topics so it must be ok?
Thanks

KG-

i have a set of Taco Grand Slam 270 top-mounted riggers mounted inside the cabin of my 2530. headroom has never been a problem for me. first of all, the handles are mounted so that they are close to the bulkhead, and therefore out of the way. the only time they swing inward into the cabin is when the riggers are deployed, and even then they are pretty much confined to the corner and not an issue in terms of headroom. if youre still not sure, another option is to go the way my buddy did on his 2520 XLD. he has the same riggers i do, but his are mounted on the outside lip of the pilothouse roof, behind the aft bulkhead, so they arent in the cabin at all. i would have done mine that way, however my roof overhang was less than his and i didnt have to room. as far as the instal, the hardest part is deciding on a location, drilling the holes, and getting the mounts and backing plates to line up right. other than that, its a breeze and takes about 2 hours to do carefully. ive been very pleased with mine thus far, and have no complaints whatsoever.

I decided to go with Rupp Radials on my 2530. They mount on top and are very easy to put out and adjust. However, you do have to stand on the gunnels and hold on to the rail to put them out. They were installed with wedges and aluminum backing plates and I double rigged them. They're low maintenance and I've never had a problem. I highly recommend them.

What size poles are on the Rupp Radials? (1.5"x15'ft)? Nice! I also need to make some measurements and see if my cabin overhang would allow for the Grand Slams mounted outside.
Thanks again, this is a great website!!

Yes. They are 15'. Didn't want to go any longer and smash someone's headlights if I forgot to raise them before backing into my slip.

I'd be careful about mounting them on the cabin overhang. The stresses on the bases are incredible. The lower you adjust them, the greater the force exerted on the base. I'm no engingeer, but I don't think the overhang is a suitable place to mount them.

friend's boat has the 18 ft poles on his, mounted through the overhang without even any backing plates  he keeps them nearly parallel to the deck at all times (ask the fishing rod i lost on his boat about that one). 3 seasons and not a crack to be seen, Parker roofs are TOUGH. i'd bet that it has something to do with the fact that the bases come all the way through the roof, so the handle assemble in itself provides some support to the install.

Wow. I stand corrected. But I still don't think its a good idea to mount them there! :?

didnt mean it as a comeback, just wanted to post it up for reference :D i would imagine that it depends on the mold. our lip on the 2530 is alot smaller than his on the XLD for whatever reason. it worked out well for him, just figured it might be worth a look for someone else. plus, i think it has alot to do with the riggers. yours out there on that space, i agree with you, might be asking for trouble

I have a set of Lee Jr wishbones with 19' x 2" poles.
For reference, here are a couple of photos.
