I have a 2004 2520XL. The Starboard scuppers are bad. As you know the scuppers have a brass insert. I am told the when they are installed the mechanics have a tool that curls one end of the brass tube,i.e. the brass tube has only one end curled and it is inserted in the hold of the transom and then the uncurled end is curled by the tool. Apparently the brass sometimes crack. My question is do you think that there is danger that water will leak through the cracks and cause rot in the transom. I plan on having them replaced but would prefer not doing it until the fishing season is over. I have put silicon in the cracks.

You're probably OK for the season if you put a sealant on them but definitely fix them in the off season. That is a major point of water intrusion for many manufactures. Keep an eye on it,

I'll have to check mine. :?:

You can BET it will! I would use 3M 4200 or BoatLife Life Caulk, seal them up good!

For a scupper flaring tool - youse asks ... youse gets ... only a search away in our archives. Here's a DIY "how to" make your own flaring tool, click link here.

I'd bed with 5200.

Thanks everyone for your reply. You have convinced me to act as soon as possible. Hey Dale: that is a neat tool but I think I'll leave it to the service department at the dealership from which I purchased the boat.

I got my answer and appreciate this board.

My motor well drain tube corroded while I wasn't looking...with some pits that compromised the aluminum. Thankfully it was bedded effectively.

I don't trust those flares to stay watertight. I liberally coated the hole with 5200 and slid a piece of plastic pipe in flush with both sides. Now I can keep an eye on it.
