I have a 6 year old Simrad cx-44, and an airmar b-260 (dual frequency) 1000w transducer. 2 Years ago my 50kHz display started behaving very (no VERRRY) poorly . Weak signal. Could not even read bottom at 30 feet. So of course that is completely unacceptable. I opted to stop using the 50 and just use the 200kHz for the last 2 years. Now this weekend the 200 is showing the same signs as the 50. Can't read bottom. If I turn up the gain from low 60s to mid 80's I can read bottom, but that's just goofy to use that way.
So I've talked to lots of people at various manufacturs (Simrad (now Navico), Gemeco, and my local dealers (Voyager & Navtronics)
Seems there is no good way to diagnose the unit other than taking it out of the water and bringing it to airmar. Or swapping cables with a different transducer. None of the dealers carry a b-260 for that unit in order to plug in and drop over the side. Of course I can't just take the boat out of the water due to size so this will be a fall job.
What I'm trying to find out is if it's the display unit/brains or the transducer. Would love to find someone with a boat near by that has a cx-44 who wouldn't mind swapping transucer cables port to starboard with me in order to isolate the real problem.
I'd be willing to pay for someone's time to do this.
Please PM me if you would be willing.
I would be willing to drive 50 miles north or south of York Harbor, Maine to try.
