it was necessary because the side sonar needs to clearly see port and star. i needed to get it below tabs, a c-80 transducer etc..

i drop it down to second hole and lock in place with clevis pin. moved up one hole its in normal 2D running position. the side scan only works up 15 mph or so, and it can also be affected by significant wave action. that's the speed i hunt at anyway.

this company has come a ways since the ole' flasher K-mart marketing days. nobody else has this technology

also note after i bought the boat all plastic thru-hulls were replaced with brass.

So when you are ready to hunt, you drop the 'ducer down so it can get a better picture?
I love new electronics...

next time you go out, can you take some screen shots of possibly some underwater structure or better yet, some fish?! :D i would love to see how well it works. does anyone know how they work for offshore use? such as in 200feet or deeper? i haven't done any research on these new breed of sonar, but any info would be greatly appreciated!

Sort of like...... "Down Periscope" ? 8)

I wonder if you could mount the transducer in-hull and shoot-through if you had a Deep-V model? I think the deadrise in my Mod-V might be too small, but maybe a DV, or even move the ducer up closer to the bow to get a sharper side-angle?

John,

Looks like the total travel of the tube is about six inches down. Was that the minimum depth to just clear the prop wash and tabs, or was that based on the stress on the transducer and tube while underway?

It's a great idea, and looks like a very practical solution to the wide beam angle transducer issue. Once I see photos of how well your unit works I'll get motivated and want to install one too.

I'll have to put a bicycle flag sticking up on the top of the transducer tube every time I deploy it though, to remind me that it is deployed and I need to pull it up before I get underway.

I've been up on a plane dozens of times before I remember the dive ladder is still down

Keep us posted on your results.

John
