Spent the weekend washig and waxing. As stated before I have a real problem with yellow stains(iron in the water?) at and above the waterline. I trailor my boat, so it is not in the water for extra long periods of time. I used ON/OFF to remove stains, I have found that to be the best product. I waxed with Starbright. Will more coats of wax help prevent these stains. :?: I love my boat and enjoy keeping it clean, so the stains just make me crazy. Thanks for any advice. Like many of you, I like people to think they are getting on a brand new boat every time they board.

Here's what I found helpful for staining. I wipe down the hull immediately on recovery after splashing in water that stained her hull.

Also, I start with a clean hull and use a spray detailer like Turtle Wax Ice. I spray it on and wipe off with a microfiber cloth. I do this periodically. This also really helps with bug splatter I get during trailering trips.

Once a year I work on and wipe off a solution of 1 part water and 1 part liquid rubbing compound. I fashion an applicator from a empty Heinz ketchsup bottle - the kind that stands with the cap on the bottom. I spray wax immediately after this cleaning. I formerly used a polishing wax, but like the diluted rubbing compound solution better as its less work.

I'd sure like to hear what other folks are doing.

Based on a demo from Megabyte, here is my cleaning waxing drill:
1. Wipe/scrub hull with "Roll Off" to get the greasy grunge off
2. Wipe/scrub hull with FSR to get the orange/brown iron stains off
3. Wax with a good quality of was (Collinite Fleet Wax works for me)

I've never wiped during the season with one of those quickie clear wax formulas. Maybe someone else can provide the pros/cons of doing that.

For the non-skid on the top-side, I use Bar Keeper's Friend.

I have a bottle of rust stain remover from starbrite. I use it around metal pieces if there is any rust color present. I shot it on my hull the ther day and it wiped the stain you are refering to right off- I was very surprised, hull looks like new.

You all wanna secret?

Rather than spend $12 on a bottle of StarBrite rust stain remover, just buy a bottle of Tid-e-bowl at the dollar store, you know, the toilet bowl cleaner. Works just as well, we use it all the time on the lobster boats to clean the rust and crap stains off stainless and fiberglass. The cheap stuff will even smoke a bit, as its really acidic.

That stuff from Starbite worked very well for me,but I bought it at Worst Marine and paid 14 dollars LOL. It's stronger than bar keepers friends and I keep it on the boat, can't do that with can of BKF it will turn into a rock.
