i think this was discussed at some point here, cannot find old post.

problem: 23se, when retrieving the danworth type anchor and winding the rode back in the locker, their is NEVER enough room for the anchor itself, i have to mess around with the rode to get the anchor back in the locker and be able to close the locks and lid.

a friend suggests get a 4-5" piece of pvc and put it in the anchor locker well.......then wind the rode around that, once completed put anchor inside the pvc tube.

i think it would work put how would you mount the PVC without needing another pair of hands to keep the pvc centered?

is this clear as mud???

You could tab it (PVC) and glass it into place ...

yeah, when i had my 23DVCC it was a PIA sometimes to maneuver the rode around so i could mash the Danforth down far enough to shut the door. never did resolve that issue before going to the PH.

I was using premium 1/2 inch nylon 3 strand line on the CC. now that i am using 8 plait line in my windlass, i can't help to wonder if that would have resolved the previous issue on the CC because this stuff (8 plait) does not take up much room at all in the anchor locker. might be worth checking out.

what does "tab it" mean?
Tabbing is simply overlaying pieces of wetted out glass material to affix another piece in place. A quick google search of 'fiberglass tabbing' will show you how. Or go to SystemThree's website and download their free 55+ page epoxy book. It is a GOLDMINE of info. I could send you glass and epoxy John.

But ... if you can mount the PVC pipe there the anchor locker floor is FLAT, no tabbing would be needed, see sketch below.

thanks dale, several how to's on google ref. tabbing.

i guess first i would need to use a a contour gage or some other method to........... transfer the characteristics of the bottom in the locker to the bottom of the pvc tube? then cut pvc accordingly!

i just might take you up on the fiberglass materials via bmail, in your opinion, would i need much fiberglass matting? seems i might to keep the pvc vertical.

I'd think 3 strips 3-4" wide, 3-4" on each surface, say from floor/wall up the tube ... would do it. PVC is easy to glass to. Of course I say glass, but it's just epoxy.

I'll second what grouperjim offered. Going to 8-ply anchor rode is just like doubling the size of the anchor locker!

Nice one Jim!

Lookie here, GREAT prices on 8-plait line spliced to chain, < $1/foot for 1/2" rode.

I totally agree with Jim on this one, he helped me to change position of the way the line goes into the locker on my 2120PH. I also changed over to 8 Plait and there is a lot more room in the locker.

Check out Defender online, I bought mine there and I believe the prices are even lower than Secosouth
www.defender.com
SecoSouth doesn't say what brand their line is, but for 300' of 1/2" to 15' of 1/4" chain, here's the match-up ...

DEF = $409, SeCoC = $235

Not even close "if" the rode is equivalent in quality

DEF sells Lewmar line

You didn't look hard enough Dale. Defender, 275' of 1/2" and 25' Chain is $239.00 and I bought it for $199.00 on sale. Every year they have an annual sale and the bargains are great. It is still a better bargain at $239.00 at Defender because you get more chain. I forgot to add that for me it is even cheaper because I live very close and just pick it up but that can be dangerous because I always find those "MUST HAVE ITEMS"

8 Plait Rope And HT Chain Anchor Rode
