taco rod holders

want to install a pair of taco rod holders on my 98' 21 SE. Can i mount them directly to the posts under the gunnels or will this compromise the strength of the hull in the long run making them more succeptible to rot?

I imagine if I use some 5200 sealant things should be fine?

Those posts are called "ribs" I believe. They add strength to the sides of hull. I can't see any reason you can't screw accessories to the ribs if as you say, seal with some 5200.
