I have a 2003 Parker 2520 with a yamaha 225 4 stroke. The electronics include a networked HDS 7 and HDS 10. I am thinking about adding an autopilot. I would use it to help steer the boat as I troll for stripers. I do not travel far from home port. Would a Raymarine EV-100 with a type .5 pump work? Any other suggestions? I would like to keep costs reasonable

It will work, however it will work better with Raymarine chart plotter. I have one coupled with a Northstar 6000i spent many hours getting it to work as should. But it works great now. My advise is to call and buy from Jim at BOE electronics in Md. You will pay a little more than other places but you will get lots of tech support when needed. Check the raymarine forums and other electronics sites so you have a good idea of what you are going to encounter ie seatalk networking and cabling with the proper connectors. It's not just a wham bam type of job.

Good luck you will love it when all the red disappears

Charles

PS. double check your steering fluid capacity at the motor end and be sure the .5 pump will work

Lorance has an autopilot for a single outboard that will hook right into unit. Pump computer and heading sensor $999.00.

Thanks. The lowrance may just be the best price solution. It looks like it is a new product. I wonder how well it works

I looked at those EV100 units also. I just can't afford to do that yet as I have a few other projects waiting in the wings. See the link below to cross reference the ram with the needed pump. I meant to check the model of ram on my 2120 but forgot to do it. I hope this helps. Let's us know what you end up doing and how it works out.

We are going Garmin Autopilot after the 1st of the year.........I don't want Raymarine anything on my boats.

I went with Garmin GHP10 GHC20 2.0L pump I was looking at TR-1 Gold but went with GHP10 so I could have a/p for main eng. I tie my kicker to main for trolling, I also have the wireless remote. I installed it my self, Lowrance wasn"t out when I got mine.

I believe lowrance just put this auto pilot unit out this past June. The price is definitely right, I talked to a Lowrance rep briefly over the weekend about it, He was at the local West Marine. You can plot a way point or you can program in a trolling pattern with this unit. I most likely will get one and try to get it installed after the holidays are over. Same as you, I do a lot of trolling, and some days getting the lines out and keeping the boat on course can get a little frustrating.

I'm going to rig my new 2520 with a Garmin. The GHP-10 is about 1500 and the pump goes for around 750 but I am sure it will be well worth it when we head to the edge.

Priced out a few options. Garmin GHP 10 with pump will be a little shy of 3k. Like this unit quite a bit. But compared to the unreleased Lowrance autopilot, it may be 2k more. In speaking with BOE marine, the lowrance will be a low end unit with limited capabilities. Not sure if spending 2k more is worth, seeing that i would use it only for trolling (mainly setting lines out and while reeling in any fish I may catch).

I researched this awhile back because my needs are similar to yours.
All I wanted was a unit that could keep me going straight while setting lines or when bringing in a fish.

At the time, The Lowrance seemed like the best bet due to its relatively low price.
What I discovered back then that nixed the deal was that the Lowrance I was considering would not hold me true at trolling speeds.
Apparently, the unit could not detect the subtle changes in direction at trolling speeds, so I had to abandon that plan.

Admittedly, I did this research several years ago, so it is quite possible the newer units might work now, but I decided to pass on the idea.
My guess is that what you are paying for in the more expensive units is a much better heading sensor and a faster (higher capacity) pump.

I cannot find a lot of information on the new Lowrance autopilot other than from the Lawrence site. It is advertised to hold a track for trolling. Can't tell whether it will work with trolling speeds of 2 knots or so.

This past season, I went trolling for stripes about 7 or 8 times. Next fall season, the oldest is in college and I will lose his help. Thats the main reason into looking at the autopilot.

I have the raymarine EV with the .5 pump. It is installed with the outboard rudder feedback which made a huge difference. So far i love it.
