Especially if you have a 2320, how do you feel it performs? Can you keep a bottom lock at WOT? Where did you mount it exactly? Pics?

I am almost ready to order a Humminbird 1197C SI unit, but the huge transom mount transducer worries me a little. I'm currently using a shoot-thru and its flawless. I get massive growth in my marina, and I'm also worried about trying to keep it clean.

Thanks.

Dom

I know of some folks who have adapted a transom mount 'ducer to shoot-through duty.
Would that be possible with the Hummingbird 'ducer?

BTW - Nice shot of that sailboat. Right where it should be.

Maybe I can do something like Cbigma did here. He made an epoxy platform. I wonder if this would work with the sidescan transducer.

Engine bracket and trip tabs, not enough clean water!

Thats another thing I was worred about. My friend with a 2520 had an old Furuno unit with a transom mount transducer and the performance was terrible!

Last season he upgraded to a new Furuno FCV620 with a P79 shoot-thru and its been excellent.

I have two raymarines, one a shoot-thru and the other a transom mount. the shoot-thru has a good image at all speeds. the transom mount breaks up above about 20 mph. I haven't done a lot of "tuning" on the transom mount, so maybe I could improve its performance.

I have Garmin dual freq. and Lowrance skimmer transom mount transducers on my 21 SE. Both are mounted on the starboard side inboard of the trim tab. I get excellent performance from both at low and high speed.

The ducer for my C-80 is also transom mounted on my 23SE. Same thing, to the starboard of the boat, between the engine (notched transom) and the tabs. No problems (knock on wood) and works great and all speeds.

My experience says otherwise ...

* Engine bracket - it is practically OUT of the water @ hull planing speeds. And starts 8" HIGHER than where xducer is mounted.

* Tabs - I use 24' wide (chord) Bennett trim tabs (larger range than Lencos) and I use a Furuno transom-mounted transducer with ZERO problems, max hull speed ~40mph.

The cleanest water off the hull is down towards the V where you'd mount the xducer. Have never lost a transom-mounted one due to a surface strike in the last 20-years.

Your mileage may vary ... but it should wouldn't stop 'me' from adding one.

FYI, it is no longer called "global warming". It is now being called "man made climate change". It was done so due to the fact that some scientist believe that the southern hemisphere is seeing cooling trend and the environmentalists still need to use the topic as a poitical weapon against economic growth. Now if it cools, it is due to the Optimax, if it is warm, it is caused by the Optimax, if there is a draught, it is caused by the Optimax, if there are floods, it is due to the Optimax....

personally, I am hoping for warming so I dont have to move south a and have the south come to me in the future..

BTW, my transom mount transducer never loses bottom. just make sure transducer is mounted low enough to run in clean water.

The Feb. 7th edition of The Fisherman weekly mag had a great performance comparison of thru-hull, shoot-thru and transom-mount transducers. Lots of good info and stats. I will try and scan and post the article tomorrow.
