Just getting back from over 30 days of business travel, vacation to Hawaii, and more business travel. Been gone for so long it appears that I've lost my #2 most ubiquitous poster position to Dale. Will have to work overtime to read all the threads I've missed and try to catch up.

Purpose of this thread is to find out where in the DC, Baltimore, Annapolis area I can get the Goodyear Marathon trailer tires. I had one develop a bulge (I ran over the corner of my chock-block and bruised the sidewall) and need to replace it. Tried Mr. Tire and Merchants but they don't carry them. Will probably have to go to a trailer dealer for them.

They are P225R75 15 Goodyear Marathon marked "Trailer use only."

Any ideas, tips, or pointers?

Not sure about a brick and mortar store that might carry Marathons other than maybe Daves Trailers in Glen Burnie.

Some years back I bought a pair of Marathons from the Tire Rack to replace my crummy Carlisles. They came mounted on new galvanized rims and were ready to bolt on. Best part was they were delivered by the big brown truck so there was no muss, and no fuss.

Why the radials? I've had much better luck with bias ply shoes on my trailers.

Had 6 Goodyear Marathons on my Loadmaster triple. 5 of them had bulges...

You can try Mid Atlantic Marine in Warsaw Va. they carry them in their ships store. They are an EZ loader dealer and that is what is comming on them now. 1-804-333-3379

FYI before you sink any more money into the Marathons, do some research on them. lots of horror stories, especially the lots that were manufactured in China. the guy that bought my 23 CCDV called me and said that he developed multiple sidewall balloons on 3 out of 4 tires. and i did properly inflate them.

bty, i switched over to bias ply also, works great for me.

I just started looking for trailer tire's.i found several brand's and also found [from a tire guy] that when buying trailer tires be careful of the dates.some of the tire's i looked at had a manufacture date as far back as 01.that's and 8 or 9 year old tire.i finally found some that where from 07 not the brand i wanted but would much rather have them than some old tire that has been sitting around a warhouse for 8 years.

They are junk...........I got em. There on the list to go ASAP. Two issues in one year. Wouldn't you know they came standard on my EZ-Load "OF CRAP" trailer. Every tire looked deformed the day I bought them with lumps in the sidewall and was told this was normal. When they bubbled they told me "Oh Well you must have hit something" I told them F%^$ Off. I feel better but Im stuck with the crappy tires until I can justify (afford to) replacing them. I am a stickler for tire air prussure and allways kept them properly inflated and never hit anything. Must be the Chinese way of mounting a secret attack :shock:

I would caution against that. My trailer requires a load rating "D" tire, and those are hard to find in a passenger car tire. You can get them for light trucks, but then the diameter becomes a problem. I also note that the sidewall rating for passenger car tires is much less than those of the load range D Marathon.

I don't think I'm going to take a chance on car tires. Too much money in my fishing baby to risk her to a few $$$ on a tire.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to use car tires on their boat trailer and emphatically not suggesting that it's done to save money. 'Just letting you know that after well over 50,000 miles on my boat trailer I have come to the conclusion that car tires outperform and outlast ST tires by a very wide margin and I've found no reason not to continue using them. In other words, I feel that my baby is much happier and safer riding on car tires -- YMMV.

Electric brakes and car tires? :shock: Hope an educated DOT officer doesn’t stop you. :wink:

I agree car tires can outlast these crummy Marathon tires I would just be concerned with the load capacity and sidewall strength. If it is sufficient I would trust them. If you ever take a sharp turn with your trailer with tandem axles and stop to look at the tires you will see a tremendous amount of twist on the tires and I would fear a car tire sidewall could give under the pressure. This is a situation that does not exist in normal car use as the wheelbase is much shorter on a tandem trailer. You are a pioneer of boat trailer use in my opinion but not sure if the DOT would agree. You may want to get a copy of the DOT regulations for the states you travel in to be sure you are not exposing yourself to some hefty fines.
