Bunk trailers to be more specific..........where should bunks be placed and how many. One manufacturer recommends keel bunks to hold most of the weight and the more common bunks further out the hull just to balance the boat, holding much less of the boat weight? How about rollers to hold the keel and/or keep the keel from being damaged by cross-members? Is a trailer with several rollers better than bunks, considering the pounds per square inch either must support?

The trailer guy in my area recomended this set up to me. The center bunks run the entire length of the boat protect the keel from cross members and also help align the boat. The center bunks are covered entirely with plastic. Then the outside bunks are carpeted. When the boat is on the trailer the boat should be resting on the back of the outside bunks and then the front should be raised ever so slightly so that the front of the outside bunks isnt carrying the weight. Most of this is due to the changing shape of the hull. He recommended this because it gave the boat a balance point front and back so it wont bounce on the trailer. Also when unloading as soon as the rear of the boat has any positive buoyancy the boat lifts off the carpeted bunks and is only on the slick plastic up front and slides off wonderfully. Anyways, i think i explained it well enough.
