Trim anode for outboard on 2320

Hey guys,

My *$&^ motor keeps losing these trim anodes. This morning I replaced a missing one when I changed the prop, and after 1.7 hours of engine use, I returned to the slip to find it GONE already. Grrr! I tightened the beegeezus out of it to the point where I was worried about stripping it and even applied some 4200 to the threads (that's all I had handy).

So, it looks like I'll be replacing it yet again, and my question is this: how much angle do you guys set these up with typically? I don't really feel much "pull" even without it, but then again, my steering has a LOT of slop in it, so I'm not sure I'd notice anyway...

THe next one is going on with some Loctite, methinks... At $30 each, its starting to get expensive..

I loctite mine, also if u think you hit something with prop check anode being you most likely loosened it up.

i have not really had any problems with this particular anode. once i did not tighten it enough and during a post fishing inspection noticed it was loose. I happened to be fishing with a guy who is a certified Yami tech. he said you want the metal to metal contact with the bolt so the anode can function more effectively. he tightens the crap out of it.........until you get a "bark" then it is good. no issues since.

Well, I lost ANOTHER one! I chased the threads on the screw, coated it with blue Loctite, and torqued it to around 75 ft-lbs. After a day of diving (3 hrs of engine use) the anode was GONE again.

This is driving me nuts...

I'm going to order a new bolt for the anode and see if that might be causing the problem...

Do you have excessive vibration or something?? That is very weird.

Darned good question. The OX66 motors tend to vibrate a lot (they are 2-stroke and run on fewer cylinders when at low RPM. I'm hoping that the threads on the bolt are just worn out and replacing it will cure the problem. We'll see...
