I purchased my first parker 2 months ago and I am getting myself familiar with it along with completing some minor things for our upcoming season. I had to replace my 2 trim tab plates on the transom from sitting in salt since new. Most of the screws when I went to take them out simply broke at the head. I spent the evening drilling them out and at this point I am looking for some advice, keep in mind I am new to boats and have zero experience with repair and my local west marine employees aren't to helpful. My question is what epoxy or filler should i use to ensure I don't' get any water to penetrate. I'm thinking I will apply a filler product in the holes and simply put in my new screws. Is it that simple or should I fill the holes and re-drill? Any help with this process to ensure a good finished product would be appreciated. Thanks

Well....Clean it all up first.....Then use a countersink and countersink all those holes. Then get a qt kit of West system epoxy.

Go to the local non chain store drug store and buy some seringes...tell you don't want the needles and they'll sell'em to you without question and not think your a druggy.

Damn!....I can do this stuff faster than I can type it. :(

You need Cabisol to mix in the epoxy to thicken it. That would be West system # 406

Actually .....Forget all that... Just get the :

http://www.westsystem.com/ss/six10-thic ... -adhesive/

I'd shift the planes a little so as not to use the same holes and for fear of hitting a hole that the screw doesn't bite well in.

Or buy the Raka epoxy sample kit and get everything you'd need, including cabosil, in one ~$20 kit. See www.raka.com. Only 1/2 to 2/3rds the price of West Systems and just as good and a much better value for the $$.

Agreed, move the tab plate in towards the stem a bit so you don't put new holes over the old ones.
