Like for most the weather here in VA has made it tough to get out to fish. We have managed a few days. The striper fishing just never really happened very good for us this year. The 12th of January I fished wit Ken Neill we trolled the ocean front at VA Beach for BFT a couple hours then went tog fishing. We fished a wreck less than 15 miles off the beach. We caught 14 togs using clams, shrimp and frozen green crabs. Most were small but I had one that was 1.5 pounds.
January 15th Beth Synowiec and I fished the Elizabet River for speckled trout. The bite had slowed down since the last time I fished but we did catch 11 fish with each of us getting a release citation.
February 1st we Fished out of Rudee Inet, VA Beach. We had a snow storm earlier that week with cold temps after the storm. We had to break ice about 3/4 of a mile from the boat ramp. We ran about 30 miles to a wreck and picked away at the togs all day. Caught about 25. I was taking DNA samples for a VIMS study and also tagging fish for the VA tagging program. We caught 7 fish that had previousley been tagged and we had several that had rather severe wounds that had healed. The wounded fish seemed very healthy all healed up. The small vial is for the DNA samples.
Andy Hammond with our biggest fish 20.25 inches.
February 2nd I went by myself Speck fishing in the Elizabet River. Only caught 4 fish total. I did catch my biggest ever a 31" 10 pound Speckled Trout. I usually release all the trout but this one is getting mounted for the wall.
