Guys....my 2 year old standard horizon vhf all of a sudden is no longer working correctly. It seems that it transmits with no problem, as i can be heard, but I cannot recieve. While testing with a friends boat about half a mile away while testing with my fixed vhf and my handheld here is whats happening....
I cannot get the weather channel 1
If i do a radio check on 24(seatow) i get nothing back, but i hear it on my handheld confirming that it went through (it replays your actual radio check message)
If I do a check on the boat with the hand held it both transmits and recieves normally. As soon as you give it some distance (beyond approx 100 feet) I can only be heard, but i cannot hear a response.

I had a no name antenna installed and thought that was the problem. I replaced it today with a Shakespeare galaxy 5400 and it behaves exactly the same way.
Any ideas?

I was having two issues with my SH VHF- It wouldn't turn off so I had to unplug it and it was not transmitting at all. I sent them the unit and it was repaired at no cost. If you can not find the problem or suspect it is related to the radio you at least know their repair service is excellent.

End of season ... send back or replace. Std Horizon units are the best and outperform all other brands in testing - for both radios and antennas for that matter.

I would call S/H explain problem, tell them it's 2yrs old. I would guess they will repair free or min cost. I have had nothing but excellent service from them. Walt

Another vote for "Call Standard"... they make a high quality product, and stand behind it very well.
