I've had one of these for a few years, and another Standard Horizon before this one. Great radios but the paint jobs are awful.
Inside a pilot house and within 2 years, the paint flakes off the metal portions of the radio and makes a big mess. Black paint flaking chips everywhere, drives me nuts.

That's a Good radio. I've never seen the paint problem with a S/H unit myself.

Maybe try the White unit?

There are only a few VHF's that have NMEA 2000 connections..... I have one and it's my first time vearing away from a S/H unit...But it was bought before that S/H unit above was on the market.

It's a Garmin 200.

I've had a standard horizon for 10 plus years been a good unit for me

Antenna's are important too.

Shakespeare mount pt # 4187- HD

Antenna Mount shim kit pt # Shakespeare 414

Digital 529 - antenna...... I run the 529-VB = Black antenna.... I like it cause it's different and matches some of the boat trim.

If you want White........ Digital 529VW

I use Blue Seas Cable clam pt# 1002 to pass the coax thru the top in a waterproof fashion.

Most installers use a stainless clam shell...... I hate them. They squirt them full of silicone.

When and if the antenna has to be changed out.... It much faster with the Digital and Cable clam.

No cutting......No soldering........No crimping.

Digital uses a pripertory small end and a adapter screws on it , to connect to the VHF.

There are all kinds of radio choices.

I just the other day mounted a second one. First is an original SH Eclipse to right of shifter.

Got SH GX1700. Has built in GPS. Is the white one in the cabin top.

I second that on the Digital Antena and the mount from Warts recommendations to me in the past. Not having to pass the large end through or soldering is nice. My cable clam is different as I already had it but the one Wart is talking about looks good and I almost bought that as well. I had to drill out the rubber grommet on mine a tad to get the cable end through but it does tighten down on the wire when you thread down. Don’t know the name of it. The antenna seems to be good. I’ve transmitted from about 35 miles out and all was good.

You had to cut that factory end off that Digital antenna to get it thru that Bulkhead fitting.....Didn't you?

Never mind..... I read the fine print. :) The Blue Seas Cable Clams make thins easy.... Now and later on.
