If I leave the washdown pump on but use a hose shut off on the hose, does this damage the washdown pump?
I usually turn off and on for use, but today left on by accident and seemed to work OK leaving on with the a shut off
on the hose while anchored.

Most washdown pumps are designed to be self priming and only run for 5 or so minutes. My Jabsco specifically says to not run continuously longer than 5 min. I guess as long as yours is still working it is OK. My only concern with leaving a pump running would be a hose failure and rapid flooding in a place very difficult to empty.

Do you hear the pump running?

Most pumps have a pressure switch, if the pump shuts off, you're fine.

Ditto!

Check the model # of your pump to the OEM specs.
