When my father inlaw bought his 2120 last summer the one thing we noticed upon buying the boat was the bolts that were used to mount the radar dome on top of the pilot house (see picture below). Since he bought the boat in mid August at that point the summer was coming to an end and we figured any changes that needed to be made we would make over the winter / spring. Well its now the spring and we decided to tackle the project, upon removing the dome last night we discovered a disaster. Who ever did the install did not use stainless bolts didn't line up the dome correctly didn't seal the holes, didn't seal under the dome etc etc..... So below are the pictures of the project we face. We Spent a couple hours last night digging out all the rotted wood in each hole,we set a hair dryer on the area for a few hours and then set up a heater inside the pilot house to get some heat in there. We have rainy weather up this way for the next few days of course so it will be a slow process. Luckily the top laminate is still intact and in good shape so its just a matter of mixing up some west system along with some epoxy and filling the top back up again. i will post pics as we go.
Amazing how some people could be so stupid when installing items on a boat!!!

Thanks Kevin I remember you posting that, good info, we will follow the same guidelines.

Westis too thick and won't penetrate into the core beyond where you cut. for that I use either Git-Rot or the thin penetrating 2-part expoy mix that West Marine sells. The Rot Doctor also sells similar known as CPES, for clear penetrating epoxy sealer.

Warm the core (NOT the mix!), then seal the bottom of the holes with duct tape, then when you know the core is cooling ... add the mix and continually wipe onto the core. Your intent is NOT to fill the hole, but to penetrate the pores of the core, which a theermal reduction in temperature will help achive. then fill with West or other typical 2-part epoxy mix.

Or....

If you're carpeted on the underside of the roof, cut a square out of the carpet, and then cut a square out of the bottom fiberglass skin. Remove any bad core and bond in new wood, a piece of Coosa or other no-rot foam board. Glass the piece of skin back on and replace the carpet.

If you replace with wood, overdrill your mounting holes, backfill w/ thickened epoxy and then redrill. This isolates the core from any possible water intrusion.
