My 2000 21" se originally came with a 150 2 stroke, the guy i bought it from re powered with a 2005 f225 yamaha 4 stroke but kept the original digital gauges.
my tachometer works fine but the trim level always shows lit up all bars and I don't know if the temp and oil work.
my question is on the tachometer side this four wire harness is plugged in but on the engine side it is not. the four wires are black, white, grey, and a tanish looking one.
im sure this is also the original harness to the old motor but not positive. Does anyone know where this harness plugs in to on the engine side? Maybe this is why the trim light is always showing all bars on. ( I also tested the trim arm and it springs back nicely and also tested it with a meter and seems to work properly.
thanks for any help you guys can give. Oh and my tach does not have the typical two buttons on the bottom that let you check your hours on the engine because they are the original one from 2000.

Google your motor and "wire colors". Most wire colors should be for the same for all motors but no harm in being specific. On my motor (evinrude):

Black = ground
Grey = tach signal
Tan = tempature
White = not sure. Could be a trim sender. Any stripes?

yes yes and yes , Just checked under the center counsel and the wire is orange, seems to be faded on the other side. :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

thanks for the reply bryan but what i needed to know is where this plug goes to, its not connected to any thing on the motor side, this is a pic you posted its the harness with a four wire next to the pull string in this pic
white, orange, black,grey.

i believe that is for extra charging cable, but your trim guage is probably not working because of the sender.

I'm 99% sure that's the trim/oil harness from the 150. Not sure if it will plug into anything on the F225, but if so, there's a matching plug in there somewhere. Yamaha's rigging is pretty fool proof. Things are color coded and only go together one way.

There may be a pigtail or something that would allow you to connect that plug to the F225 to make the trim bars work. Check w/ Andy Jr. at Shipyard Island Marina. He can tell you for sure.

Also, there are some dipswitches behind a rubber plug on the back of the tach. If you tach is working, the switches for that should be set right, but the ones for the trim may have to be changed.
