What is this? I think it is some kind of circuit protector but it is not a breaker. It is inline on the positive cable from one battery to the battery switch. I had to take it off and clean it and the wires tonight as I lost all power to my switch panel from a poor contact somewhere on it.

It is a thermal circuit breaker. If it heats up (overload condition) it will break the circuit, as it cools down it will make the circuit (automatic reset). I believe it is 40 amp and any Parker dealer should have it in stock.

As you have been told....It is a AUTOMOTIVE thermo circuit Breaker.

They have No business on a boat......and yet boat manufactures use them all the time.... They RUST! This causes bad connections. I have found those to be the culprit of many a electrical problem even on boats less than a year old.

If you Love your boat replace it with this in the proper amperage....This one in the pix just happens to be a 100amp unit, but they are made in all sizes.
