Just got a Furuno 587 . Looking for the right thru hull transducer. Mostly fish between 30& 400 ft . Boat is a 2120 Parker . Bottom fish & tuna. Thanks for any info.

I just went thru this last year with a Furuno unit, going with one of the "in hull" models, made as a tilted element. That is preferable to a shoot through and you get water temp as a bonus.

I strongly urge you to email Airmar. In my case, they have 3 levels or tiers of xducers that would work ... the base ones, like typical transom-mount units, where the same model was also sold as a shoot-thru - $100, then it was an improved or enhanced model, titled element - $250 and then a premium model, also a titled element, but high performance - $500.

Turns out though even it would connect ... the $500 one would not give any better resolution or performance than the $250 one, due to the wattage of the specific machine in question. I thought that was enlightening - and super customer service. Furuno said use any of them, but Airmar said don't waste my hard earned money on the deluxe model.

I'd email Airmar and go with the IN-hull over a shoot-thru IMHO, for best performance.

NOTE - to install the IN-hull model, I did have to buy a LARGE locking/sliding jaw pliers, but they were only $16 at Haba (Harbor) Freight. Good enough for the one job! Make sure you have room to work down there in the bilge ... ;) plan ahead of time ...

The Airmar 'tilted element' transducer that Dale spoke of is the bronze item on the left in the photo below.
Several other members have project posts where they have documented the install.
My transducer is hooked to a Furuno FCV600L

NOW wait just a min.......Lets get OUR terminology correct.

one of the "in hull" models, made as a tilted element.

That is a "Thru Hull"...not a "In Hull"........

Thru hull = drilling a hole Thru the hull.

Shoot thru or In Hull -= a Transducer the is mounting in the bilge and shoots thru the fiberglass.....IE: it's In the hull.
