Have been looking at a windlass for my 25' Parker pilothouse. In this type of boat a windlass is a must beause it not that easy to deploy the anchor, esp alone. Freefall is nice but only on the more expensive units. I will only have this boat for 2-3 years. Is a Lewmar 550 sport ok for this boat for $500.00 or should I step up and get the profish freefall 700 for $900 ? Any other suggestions ? Thanks !!

I put a profish 1000 free fall on mine.. I think bigger the better . But i also have 50' chain and a 22lb plow

I second the Profish 1000
I have the 700 and frankly, it seems to struggle at times pulling my anchor out of the kelp.
Plus, the 1000 makes it easy to purchase and install the Lewmar wireless remote

50ft of chain and a 22ft plow??????? Holy moly. You would pick up an extra 2 kts if you dropped to a mear 12ft of BBB chain and a 14lb plow.

In all due respect, you could anchor a 15,000lb boat in 50kts of wind with your current setup. Actually, I had 20ft of chain anda 22# plow on a 15,000 lb Duffy and never had a problem.

He says he thinks bigger is better. LOL

You must sleep well at night on the hook.

I spent the night on the hook back when I first bought my boat.
We were in a small Bay off the Chesapeake with about 20 other boats.
That night, the wind got up and I didn't sleep at all. :(

After that experience, I swapped out the Delta for a Hydrobubble 'Captains Choice' and 20' of chain.
No more sleepless nights.

Oh... and I don't have a windlass.
Maybe someday. :)
