I don't normally dip my screws in epoxy (in this case Marine Tex), but in this instance, I had some mixed (was out of 4200) and was driving a SS screw into the transom......one of my secret projects to be revealed later. I am going to remove the screw this afternoon.........was wondering if it will come out clean or is there a good chance the head will snap off?

Any experiences removing screws sealed with Marine Tex epoxy? Thanks.

Go slow and good luck. I don't think you will have a problem as Marine Tex does not bond well to Stainless. Especially screws that have oil on them from the machine process. If it does break drill & fill.

I'd chuck up a suitable bit in a old 'bit brace' drill and use that for control and leverage. If a screw, I'd think that would come out pretty easy, as it's tapered somewhat.

Just the other week I took some machine bolts out of 2" epoxy/wood layup (were there to hold the wood to the transom as it cured) and the bit brace worked slick. Finding the correct bit to fit the screw head, to me is the 1st priority. Once started, they backed out easily.

I think Dave is right. Just went out and put a long phillips screw driver on it. I put enough force on it just short of stripping out the screw head. It "aint movin."

Oh well, the main reason I wanted to remove it was to dab a little 4200 on it. It will stay as is. Don't think I will ever use epoxy again to seal a screw.

Thanks for the replies.
