I have to say I love these forums b/c I am starting fresh and can eliminate a lot mistakes other people have made and can eliminate a lot of trial and error things that other people have gone through already. for this I thank you all!!!

I need to purchase a windlass, rode, and anchor... I am looking at the Lewmar 700, it's the smallest one they make and it's good for boats upto 35'... Also what rode?(which I have only heard it referred to as that in the last week or so) should I get? I like the idea of the delta plow anchor, it seems to be the most popular with?? (south shore of LI boating sand and mud botom mostly)

As I stated above, I want to do it all right the first time and not want to replace things b/c i tried to save a few bucks!!!

Thanks again!!!

Try a search, this has been discussed to the death.

Consensus is, Lemar Pro fish 700, 8 plait rode, plow anchor with a swivel and boat lenght of chain.

Ground tackle may vary depending on your application.

I would buy the rode and chain after buying the windlass then contact them about the optimal rode and chain specific to the brand and model.
You are fortunate buying everything new at the same time
Windlass can be repaired so look for spare parts
You might want to invest in a cover when not in use
m2cw is everyone's anchor is the best

outofcommision.....i too am on the south shore and this set up has been working out great for me.

I am using a 13 pound anchor on a 21 sport cabin with 10 foot 5/16 chain. awesome instant holding power, escpecially by all the bridges by us with strong currents. Its not a problem at all. I shopped all winter for a windlass and every place I went told me that the "good" windlass is the cadillac of windlassas. I must say they were right. Check out my setup in the above link and let me know if you have any questions.

Make sure you get the 8 Plait rode. It's like night and day compared to the best of the 3 strand.I haven't had the line go under the stopper once since using the 8 Plait.
