I am looking at a used Parker 2520 for sale with a Yamaha 250HP 2cycle direct injection engine. I hear that these are good engines since they are simpler and lighter than 4 strokes but how do they compare on fuel economy? Any preferences or opinions on 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke? Also, is this enough power for a 2520? Many thanks for your input.

250 hp is a good choice on a 2520.
As for the motor in question... is it an OX66 or an HPDI?

Good motors, just make sure that all of the software updates have been applied and maintenance is up-to-date.
A good Yamaha mechanic can plug a laptop into it and tell you all that you want to know about the motor.

I've just looked at some comments on the 250 HPDI on the Hull Truth boating forum. There are a lot of posts about blown powerheads on this motor. These comments are a bit old so maybe Yamaha has figured this out. The engine on the boat I am looking at has a new power head but I don't want to have any problems.

All the more reason to have a Yamaha mechanic plug in and check it's health and history.
Amazingly enough, many owners don't follow the manufacturers recommendations for such things as Ringfree and software updates.
A properly maintained HPDI will be easy to spot once plugged in.

My buddy has a 250 HPDI on a Grady, he bought it used with only 50 hours on it.
Blew the power head the first week, covered under warranty. Sine then (after the updates, etc.) the thing runs like a champ and that was 4 years ago. As Megabyte said, get a Yam tech to plug into it to make sure it has gotten the needed updating.

Advice I wish someone had given me:

Make sure your local mechanic/shop KNOWS these engines. If not, they can be a real headache for shops not familiar with them (and cost you a lot of money and frustration)
