    Trailer Diagnosis

Got some time to dig into this a little more. I originally thought I would just be able to replace the integrated hub/rotor, but it looks like the axle spindle has been significantly damaged. I'm afraid to ask, but I'm assuming at this point I need to replace the axle? -- Tom

    Trailer Diagnosis

Thanks guys, I couldn't remember if hubs and axle were integrated or not. If that's what it is, I can fix it myself -- fingers crossed. Ill dig into it when I get some down time and see how it comes apart. -- Tom

    Trailer Diagnosis

Any idea what is required to fix? Do I need to replace the entire axle or ?? Not sure how these things go together. The trailer is 13+ years old, and I replaced all 4 sets of wheels/tires/bearings and installed the Kodiak brakes about 5 years ago. -- Tom

    Trailer Diagnosis

Haven't really had time to even take a better look at this, but something obviously bad has happened to my trailer. This happened on the way to the boat ramp this afternoon - which is approx 3 miles from my house and in which time I never go > 35 mph. Anyone know what happened and what the...

    Spring 2013 Project time!

Gotcha - Looks like Steiger Craft is the manufacturer that I was thinking of that only goes to the chine/waterline point. Looks good, especially with the thick / thin strip like Warthog posted. -- Tom

    Spring 2013 Project time!

Kevin, What do you see as preventing you from doing the boot stripe yourself, especially if you use the blue tape as a spacing/alignment tool? Not criticizing, just curious what you are thinking in the event I go down this path at some point. I prefer the spacing on the right -- 1" I believe...

    Change spark plug wires?

I've had similar experience with plug boots failing on 2 or 3 cylinders. Simple resistance check to test and easy enough to replace. In my case it helped smooth out a rough low-idling condition. -- Tom

    Winky Blinky

Is this motor new to you? I ask because depending on the exact engine you have, some of the larger Yamahas drop 1-2 cylinders at low RPMs and they tend to run rough and shake a bit until you push the RPMs up and all cylinders start firing. Also pretty typical for the RPMs to run a bit higher...

    Gelcoat over Raka Epoxy?

Just a quick post to confirm the bit of research I did today -- it is not recommended to gelcoat over epoxy, correct? I'm sure that there are ways that it can be done, adding another filler/buffer layer of some sort, chemical or otherwise.. but just to keep it simple, lets ignore those options...

    Re seal Deck plates

I'm in the process of gathering all the materials to rebed the round deck opening above the fuel tank as well as the rectangle slam hatch in front of the motor. I've got the new O-Rings and gasket for the hatches from Tempress, new tube of LifeCaulk, acetone, blue masking tape, etc.. Last...

    Gel coat where to buy?

Yes, Riverfront Marine in Salisbury.. They kept it in a fridge, which may explain why mine didn't last :) -- Tom

    Gel coat where to buy?

To answer my own question - yes, it has a shelf life.. opened up the can I got from the factory many years ago and about 90% of the material had dried solid. Good news is that I was able to pick up a fresh pint for $18. -- Tom

    Gel coat where to buy?

Does Gelcoat have a shelf-life? I got a small container of gelcoat from Parker about 6 years ago and never opened it, has been sitting on a shelf in my office the entire time. Do you think its still usable, or better to get some new? -- Tom
