I have a 2002 1801 with a F115 yamaha and a T-Top on it. When I have 1-2 persons on the boat it gets on plane ok but when I put a third person in the boat it's a pain to get on plane. I had this boat for 3+ years and has been like this since day 1. The boat runs great and gets 5400 at WOT. At 4500rpm it will cruse at 30mph. So the question is has anyone had this problem with their 1801 and if so what did you do? I have a 13x19p ss prop on it now and was thinking of putting a 17p on it but I don't see it making a big difference. I guess with a 17p prop on it I will cruse at 4800 RPM 30mph. Is that about right? Thanks Ed

a 17 pitch should help and give you about 400 more rpm's.A 4 blade prop might help even more for hole shot.

DON'T GUESS on a prop or try someone else's suggestion (no offense) - but read through this and do it to ensure YOUR boat - as rigged - is wearing the RIGHT prop:

Note small boats are highly sensitive to fire/aft trim. With 3 aboard, that 3rd person may need to be forward of the console to get her to plane out. Or add trim tabs or smart tabs or even a SE Sport fin (rated the best hydrofoils).

Your motor "could be" a 6,000 RPM motor, in which case you are not only way too low ... but you risk causing her long term damage ... as lugging kills OBs!

Try a 13" X 17 pitch prop or a 13.25" X 16 Pitch.

Again, try before you buy......

I have had good luck with Mercury Mirage props... Same spline count as Yamaha so they work with the correct hub kit....

Add Lenco trim tabs....

All will be well.........

No, no, no, no, no ....

Test the EXISTING prop to recommended WOT RPMs first to see of the motor is wearing the right wheel for THAT boat ... then fool around with the other options.

he is turning 5400 with his current prop,so a prop with less pitch will give him more rpm at wot and maybe a better hole shot.
It also depends on what make and brand prop he has .a dealer is known for throwing on any prop that fits.
more info and prop info would be helpful.also dealers like to bury motors deep in the water.
a pic of the engine running at plane would also help.

You need the Bennett 120 tabs. This will allow you to plane much faster and even out the weight distribution. I have no problem running a stock Yamaha aluminum prop 13.25X17 and works great. I also have the 115 Yamaha 2006 with almost 1,700 hours on her. Please keep in mind that these 1801's with this engine typically don't raise to plane fast even on a good day. The trim tabs will help a lot though.

What he said. :)

You want a prop that allows the engine to turn the max rated rpm. My Yamaha 90 is rated to turn 6,000 rpm so I have a prop that allows the engine to turn very close to 6,000 rpm. If the 115 is a 6,000 engine also, I think he is over propped and needs to reduce pitch to get it up to 6,000 rpm. After getting properly propped, then a set of tabs will be a huge help in getting a proper trim for getting out of the hole and proper running trim. Tabs are much more effective than engine trim.

I had same problem with my 1801. Hole shot is slow. With 3 of us fishing, One had to sit up front to get the boat on plane. Also got water in the scuppers (wet feet)if 2 200lb.+ people were fishing in the back. 115 Yammy is weak on bottom end.

I would try Permatrim before putting trim tabs. Tabs are much more expensive and you might be fine just with a fin. 1801 is great 2 people boat but I found it is not a beast with 3 people on it. Buy a bigger boat  ?
