1801 Parker

Guys,
First off I want to introduce myself and tell you I am very glad I found this board because I am pretty sure I will get the answers to all my questions. I am located in eastern NC and run the Pamlico sound pretty heavy all year round. I currently run a 2000 JB skiff with a 90 hp yamaha. The last few years I find myself hunting out of it less and fishing out of it more. Although the boat has a TON of room, I want something with a little better ride for me and the wife (6 months married..hah). I do a good amount of drum fishing and the hull slap on that skiff at times will make you want to sniff the bottom on the sound. I am looking hard at an 1801. It seems to be a boat I could still hunt out of if needed and a little more suited for my style of fishing. I have never personally been on one but have always loved the design and simple look of those boats. I was wondering if you could share some pro's and cons maybe about switching out these two boats. I know it's alot to ask on a first post but I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thanks so much and I look forward to being a part of this forum.....

I've had a couple of Carolina Skiffs and a Parker 18 and a 21 SE. There is no comparison between the ride of the 18 and a skiff. The 18 is a very dry ride, doesn't pound nearly as bad as the skiffs. The 21 SE is even better. I'd suggest trim tabs on the 18 and definitely the 21 although the 18 responds much better to motor trim than the 21. Either boat would be a great option for you in Pamilico sound and you can go anywhere with them with a prudent watch on the weather.

Keep the skiff and buy a Parker! The 1801 is a great platform for the sound. I had a 16' Carolina Skiff which I used around Oregon Inlet and truly loved it. Momma and the kids wanted something a little bigger to go tubing in so I bought an 1801. Unfortunately, I wasn't given permission to keep 2 boats so the skiff now belongs to a guy in Wanchese. I use my 1801 for puppy drum, flounder and speck fishing and it is awesome! Parkers don't have a bunch of useless trinkets, they are pretty much good-looking work boats w/ pretty lines and have enough glass in 'em to build 2 boats!
