Hi guys,

I just bought this 1994 1700 CC. I has a 85 hp Yamaha and I want to put a four stroke on her. The problem is weight (i think) I have a 30 gallon live well as you can see in the rear of the boat. What OB would you guys reccomend? I am considering the F70...That motor is 260 lbs. The 90 or 115 is 360 i believe. What do you think?

Thanks

Rick

First off... how often to you run, or intend to run the boat with the live well filled with water?
With no water in the well, the boat should be fine just as she sits.

Second... those old 85hp 2-strokes are tough as nails and are very simple to work on.
Other than simply wanting newer 4-stroke power, is there a reason you want to replace it?
I would give serious consideration to maintaining what you have and just running her as-is.

The new Parker 18's are typically seen with 115's on the transom, so if you do re-power, I would seriously consider the 115 since the 90 weighs the same.

Thanks Kevin,

Here on the west coast I run with that tank full just about every time I go "nearshore". I say "nearshore" because it is a small skiff. This last year we had tuna everyday within 20 miles . So that would be about the extent of my trips with this one. Other times when the tank is not filled would include lobstering, casting plastics at the kelps, harbor cruising and boozing. Those times I would be going slow and the performance is not an issue.

So in answer to the question (I think) i want to rig her to run well full. Full = two grown ass men....(not grown acting men) and full tank of fuel, and full bait tank.

I have been looking and I think the F90 and F115 will be too heavy.

Has anyone used the Evinrude E-Techs?

Thanks,

Rick

I have an 1801 Parker with a 30 gallon Offshore tank. The Yamaha 115 4S pushes it fine. I finally added a set of Bennett trim tabs to help get up on plane a bit faster, and level out the ride. I am not sure how the 17' and 18' hulls differ, though. I did move the batteries to the console, which helped trim.

Rick,
I also am re-powering my 96 Parker 1800 (see my last post).
Weight is an issue. I almost went with the E-Tec. I know guides that love the outboard.
I would stay in the recommended weight range with the most HP per lb.
The rest should take care of itself.
Good Luck!
