Good afternoon y'all,

I was told by a buddy that this is the place for all things Parker. I'm looking at buying a '99 2320, went and did a water test today and noticed a pretty significant crack in the transom. It looks like the previous owner gooped it up with some sealant but the crack has since propagated which is concerning. I'm unfamiliar with the buildup of Parker transoms, but based on the pictures, should I be concerned? I'm unsure how deep the crack penetrates, and the tap test I did was inconclusive. Didn't have a moisture meter either.

The guy said he's going to have his fiberglass guy take a look and get back to me so I guess we'll see. Just wondering if anyone else has had a crack in a similar area, and what the conclusion was. Thank you for your time.

-Doug

I feel like it's also worth stating that when we got back to the ramp and hauled out, I trimmed the motor up and jostled it a bit to check for any transom flex and didn't see any.

There are some things in your pix's I'm unsure of?

Looks like a Jackplate? Is it a "FIXed" jackplate or Hyd?

If it's Fixed..... Is the engine a 30in shaft on a 25in transom?

Red Shift Throttle cables? Morse cable [They are the worst] Are they going to a kicker engine?

It appears that the engine bolts are over tightened and have crushed the transom core possibly.

That cracked spot is a place where the factory does a mend and blend. It's where the top cap and Hull mate.

Way out of my depth here, but let's say he/she built in a price adjustment of 10k for a new transom and tank. That would make it more attractive, for sure. To kick off a "new to me" older boat with a new transom/tank, pumps, batteries etc (while access is great) would be pretty sweet.

It's hard to say if the bolts were over torqued or if there is some softness allowing normal torque to squeeze the transom excessively...

Also, I see weld spatter on the jackplate. IDK what's going on there. It *MAY* be his equivalent of a big plate you sometimes see where people are trying to milk a few more years out of a rotted transom. There is new sealant around the bolt holes as well.

Thanks for the information gentlemen. @warthog5 it does appear that the bolts may have been over torqued now that I look at it closer; you can kind of see some bowing where the bracket sits.

I guess my dream of owning a Parker will have to wait a little while longer.
