Hey guys, in the process of picking up a 2520 deep vee with twin 150s. The outboards are Yamaha salt water series 2 engines with fuel injection. Has anybody had any experience with these engines, reliable? Durable? Enough power? Very excited and worried about the purchase. Will be doing a compression test on the engines and a Yamaha master tech will be checking hours, RPMs and run time.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I've always heard that they were good engines. You should be fine as long as they check out. They should actually be better as far as power to weight than the 150 4S's. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Feel like a little kid before Christmas, can't really sleep to well. I will be checking out the boat on sat. Fingers crossed

FWIW my brother's twin Yam 150a were the PREVIOUS vintage - circa 1987 - and are still running strong! But we had them pitched properly and ran a Seafoam 'decarb' shock treatment every 50-hours of run time.

Make SURE you are pitched to run within 200 RPMs of the rated maximum though, as running too steep a pitch prop can seriously HURT those motors!

So much so ... that I would NOT buy that rig if the OBs 'as is' won't turn the right RPMs!

Sorry for the ignorance but what exactly do you mean by rite rpm. Do you mean 200 under red line, or do you mean something else. All info is appreciated greatly.

Do you remember what the cruise speed was and what the WOT should be give or take.

The SWS II OX66 injected motors are virtually indestructible.
Service them well, give them good oil and ringfree, and you should be golden.

200 RPMs under the MAXIMUM. Most OBs do NOT wear the right prop, most are over-pitched, with May OBs set too deep.

His hull was a 21-degree deep-V 23' GW hull, the Sail Fish, if I remember correctly. I recall at 3800 RPMs he was high 20s cruise and about 32mph at 4200, with the best fuel economy in that range.
