After reading ALOT some folks are of the opinion that this hull is a bit underpwered with the Yam F 150 - some are not of that opinion - dealer does not have a 200 avilable until Dec and suggested a Yam 225 that he has in stock. Does this much weight put too much on the transom and would it cause porpoising with this hull? The boat in question is a 2008 21'CC with tabs and they would have to add hydraulic steering bringin this boat with trailer to 45 k , also seems high on price to me. Comments are appreciated.

I have a 2008 2100CC with an F150. It runs 40 mph WOT with three aboard, and cruises at any speed I like. Gets on plane quickly, too. In my opinion, the boat does not need anything larger unless you enjoy buying more gasoline at higher prices.

I'd go for the hydraulic steering with the F150, too.

My department operates a pair of 21SE's that are used as rescue boats in the Chesapeake.
One boat has a 150 OX66 on the transom, the other boat has a 225 Merc EFI. The Merc is about 2 to 3 kts faster than the 150 but I would never recommend that motor to anyone else on a 21SE.

Get the F150, hydraulic steering, and trim tabs.

I think you have to look at true power output...

The F150 supposedly puts out more like 165 HP.
The F200 is pretty close to 200.
The F225 supposedly puts on like 207 HP.

If you want more than the F150, go with the F200. If your dealer can't get one until Dec., shop another dealer because your's isn't doing something right.

Again, I would like to see written proof about the F225 not putting out 225hp at the prop. I have read this here a lot, but never seen a link to an actual article or publication that tested the motor and showed a marked deficiency in prop HP. I have, however, posted in the past a head to head test between the an off the shelf F225 and Honda 225, where both were dyno tested and both put out 224hp at the prop.

POWER AND SPEED
Who was faster? In this test, it was the Yamaha F225, with a top speed of 78.3kmh at 5700rpm. Honda's BF225 achieved 74.5kmh at 5500rpm.

The results surprised everyone including Yamaha personnel, who believed that the Honda would be faster.

The results surprised us because our dyno testing told another tale. We used a Land & Sea Dynomite dynamometer to measure propshaft torque and horsepower through a computer-controlled run beginning at 2500rpm and ending at 6100rpm.

As indicated earlier, we did this to determine if either engine had a disproportionate horsepower advantage. The dyno showed that both engines were stock and dead equal.

Honda emerged with 224hp at 5700rpm, while Yamaha pumped out the same ponies at 6000.

I would shop on dealers,,,,I got 2008 21SE with 150 hydr, T-top etc for less than 34,000 on a loadmaster trailer. I asked my dealer about a 200 he said I would get about 4 mph more,,, not worth the gas and money for 4 mph.

I'm amazed at the variance in pricing that i'm finding, i just hope that dealer territory thing doesn't get in the way of picking up the boat at a reasonable price. This area around the chesapeake seems to carry the highest pricing - i'm not opposed to traveling to get the right deal. I'll update as the search continues. My local dealer wants 47k for a loaded 21se w/150 ,hardtop, rocket launchers, leaning post, high bow rail, electronics box w/ standard elecs and trailer , yowzza!

I believe in support your local dealer...to a point ......
I am in Florida, so dont know if that makes a difference, or my Dealer is a Parker dealer for over 10 years get a better price ???? the only thing i see different is i did not get bow rail or eletronic box on T-top and i prefered not to get a hardtop. but thats not 10,000 differnace.

I would call a few dealers around you area, for 10,00 grand you can come to florida. Shop around I did for 6 months and right now with the way gas and everything else is. They have to make deals or hang on to the boat.

I had an 06 2120 Sport cabin with the 4 stroke 150 and it moved the boat just fine. The cabin boat needs more power than the CC. I never had a problem with power , unless you are a speed freak i would save the fuel and enjoy the 150. Just my 2 cents.
