21CC Question

I am trying to plan my next boat and am deciding between the 21dv and the 21se. I know there is quite a bit of price difference, but my biggest concern is the ride. How bad does the dv rock at drift? How shallow can you comfortable run? Is there a huge difference in slamming and wetness between the two? I have also thought about the 23se because it is about the same price as the 21dv, but don't know if it will ride as good. I fish the shallows of the Pamlico Sound and will venture 10-15mi out on a good day. The older I get, the more my back and feet bother me, therefore the more important the ride is to me. I use to own a 1801 and that was a great tank of a boat, however it did rattle teeth and soak you in a head sea. I have a 1900 May-Craft I am selling, and it is not quite as bad, but it is still a low dead rise boat that will wet and slam. I just want something a little bigger and better ride. All input on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I've had a 21SE for 6 years and have had a 23SE for 5 years so far. I am perfectly happy with the 23SE and am a huge fan of the boat.

I have no idea what "Snap Rolls" FishFactory is talking about (no offense FF). I can drift more comfortable in my 23SE in some pretty snotty stuff, than some others can in similar seacrafts, etc. Having said that, I have no experience with DV Parkers at all.

Do I sometimes have to slow it down a bit to avoid pounding, well yes, but with trim tabs I can usually run at least 20 knots in about anything I want to be out there in. I do not consider that my boat slams or is wet, so I'm not sure where that comment from FF is coming from that it is more than you can imagine. I frequently go out 40 miles with complete confidence in the boat.

So, like I said, I have no experience with DV parkers, but I can say that I am very happy with my experiences in two SE's. 21DV vs 23SE??? I cannot comment on the 21DV, but I can tell you that the difference in size from my 21SE to 23SE was ALOT More than I was thinking it would be.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I feel and understand what you are saying, but I am still torn on which will be better for me. I just need to sit down and think about where I am going to be doing most of my fishing. I want a boat that I can handle easily all by myself, be able to carry a couple buddies or maybe one more, drop trolling motor to fish the shallows, fish inshore 10-15mi., not soak and beat me on a head sea. I know that I just stated the perfect boat and as long as I have been in the boating business, I know there is no perfect boat that does it all (good anyway). I am not fortunate enough to own more than one boat and this next one will have to hold me over for many many years, maybe even my last boat.....hahaha.. yeah right.

Do a sea trial or see if some guys might take you out on the models you like. Offer to pay for gas at least also.

After going out today in a deep vee boat, I know now that I want a mod vee. I can't take the roll of the dv.

It wasn't a Parker, it was a 33' Grady. I know that it has more deadrise than the Parker, but it is 10' longer. After asking myself where am I going to spend most of my time, the mod vee better suits me. I am just have to decide between the 21 or 23. I know the 23 will ride better, but how about mounting a trolling motor and fishing a river shore line?

the bows on them are pretty high - do you mean a bow mounted trolling motor or a stern one? I dont usually see them on bigger boats - i know the bow of my boat is a good 36"+ to the water, and the 23s arent that much smaller than mine - same hight just a little more narrow.


funny thing...i used to wish I had a parker - so I could fish on those nastier days and not get soaked...and i find myself still not going out when its nasty... haha. Part of me wants a DV for the same reason - still wouldnt go out. Then i'm thinking center console because they are roomy and even more simple...maybe i'm just never happy :/

as for the snap rolling - i dont think theres many more stable boats than a MV parker. My boat you can put 3 big guys on one side and it doesnt even lean. it has NEVER taken a roll where in the back of my mind I thought it wasnt going to recover. I've been in a 50' ocean and i've thought we were going over before, and in the gillikin head boat I had any time it blew northeast more than 15 i thought I was going to roll it.
