I went out on a sea trial on a 23 CC DV. I have no experience with a motor on a bracket. I was attempting to overcome my dislike for them becuase I believe they take up too much space at the stern when fighting a fish aft.

The boat was sitting very low in the water at slower speeds 5-10 knots. The motor was sitting on the water line at the cover seam. Is this normal?

I have the same boat and thats not my experience. If you come to a sudden stop, you will get some water to the cowling but momentarily.

The 23DV is a light boat up front.. Look for posts and you will find it detailing this as a whole.

Wicho,
It didn't seem normal. I know a motor on a bracket will drop the stern but it was extremly low. Do you know what would cause it. I thought maybe the drain plug came out. I even check the bilge. Now that I think about it I didn't check the access port on the bracket.

any ideas?

You're thinking right, first check for water in the bracket. If it's got a leak and is full of water it will cause the boat to sit way too low in the back.

Thanks Steve,
I haven't heard many responses from people with Parker but it just didn't sit well with me. I'll have to check it.

I have a 23 DVCC with a bracket and the engine does not sit that low. It could be water in the bracket, or it could be the extra weight of having a four stroke engine? Did you guys all stand in the stern to look at the same time?

Anyway, that's not normal.

As for fishing, it rarely gets in the way and the fish box that it allows across the transom is just one of the many advantages of having it.

Only time mine seems a little low is when I back off the throttle. Water likes to splash over the engine. I try to tab down or I watch the stern wave and just before it washes over I cut the wheel hard left or right.
So far the only negative about the boat is lack of storage space. Also boat is advertised as rated for 300 hp yet its clearly stamped on the bracket maximum 250 hp. Wish they didn't cheap out and use the correct bracket. That really bothered me.

Watukie,

I own a 2006 with 250 HP Yam,it does sit kind of low when going at 5 to 10 Knts, however I upgraded the Trim Tabs to 12 x 18 and that help,I now changed to a Rev 4 Bladed prop and that also helped, the motor is on the second hole from the top.

I can tell you its one of the best boats I have ever owned, the fish box on back transom is huge, the bracket also allows for getting in and out of water very easily,my wife fishes from the barket, she actually stand out there with rod in hand.as for seaworthy, she is a tank and will take her out in rough waters and she performs great.

Good luck

Robert

Hey guys,
I would like to thank everyone for their imput. I don't doubt the boats ability but I'm not a fan of the bracket. This experience did not sit well with me. I know if I pulled the trigger I will always be looking aft. I can see replacing the tilt trim motor often and I can only see future problems with having a motor sitting so low.
Thanks again guys
