i have an 01 23se i want to add a swim ladder for the kids i will probably go to my local parker dealer for the ladder but my concern is does it through bolt onto the transom or does it use self tapping screws that just screw into the fiberglass??

The factory swim ladder/platform is certainly a viable option, but you might also want to look at some of the other aftermarket ladders as well.

Armstrong makes several models of their center pole ladders that might work for you.

I'm sure that some browsing of other manufacturers, such as Birdsall, would turn up additional options. It all depends on what you want your ladder or platform to be able to do.

Please clarify ...

Do you want a ladder like this?

Or, a swim platform with ladder like this?

Regardless, BOTH should be through-bolted. I'd even drill the holes oversized and wet-out with thinned epoxy and then fill with thickened epoxy. We here can help YOU do this :D !

I have the 23 SE and I have the swim platform on the back. I'm glad its there since it came with the boat, especially since I do fish alone alot, and getting back in the boat is a concern to me if I ever fell out.

Keep in mind that it is not all that big a platform. Also keep in mind that you have an outboard hanging off there that if someone slips and falls off of it, they could get hurt on it. Its not like a swim platform on back of an inboard boat. I do not let my kids use it unless an adult is there to help them. Most of the time I just pull them in over the side. For its size, I do like that little swim platform back there with the telescoping steps.

I installed a flip down version like Dale is showing on the starboard side of my Armstrong bracket. I through bolted it, but be advised that if the bracket is metal as is mine, (aluminum) and the ladder is stainless which along with the bolts are a dissimilar metal. I had to take it off after two seasons and remount with rubber in between isolating the two because the paint on the bracket was bubbling up around the mounting site.
I really like my ladder for getting on and off the boat in the bay.

Yes just like that exept entry is from the starboard side ways,...
