Yes...Plastic tanks install differently than a alum tank.
Your not the first to think that. You figure a plastic tank will never rot.
But there are problems.
Finding a plastic tank to replace the size of the alum is #1. Then people say....Well I just put this smaller tank in that will fit the space...Never do that. Less fuel capacity = less range and less value.
Plastic tanks can warp. I replaced a plastic tank with a alum on a Hewes. The plastic tank was warped at the sender flange and would not seal. Also when I tore into the boat I found a loop in the vent hose,
Take a look at pursuit boats. I have a plastic tank on mine and it’s been great. It must be supported differently and does have vent requirements and dimensional stability issues but they do work when set up well.
