Hi all,

I'm a new member here so hopefully I am in the right forum?

I just purchased a 1995 Parker 2510 MV and blessed that it has a nice 2017 Volvo Penta 5.0 GXi crate engine with 80 hours on it. I was not even looking at Parkers but this one landed in my lap and I was so impressed with the fit and finish not to mention the new power that I snapped it up.

I spend 95% of my time boating/Fishing inshore in and around Buzzards Bay and Cape Cod Bay. I take the odd trip to Oaks Bluff and CuttyHunk and am hoping to possibly hit Block Island this year. In a nutshell I do not boat offshore unless its in someone else's boat.

I have done a lot of reading here on the forum, which by the way is a great resource, but being a newbie may have missed the answer(s) I was looking for.

My boat does not nor ever had have trim tabs and from my research regarding the DV hull and how they ride it seems that installing a set would be a very advantageous to improving the ride in snotty weather, but I have a few questions: I am looking at the Bennett Bolt system and also the comparable Lenco system and am leaning towards the Bennett mainly due to the price.

1. Bennett or Lenco?
2. The Electric system seem to be a good option for me mainly due to easier install and I really don't want to use up the limited space I have with all the hydraulic components. Opinions?
3. Was looking to install 9x24 tabs - go bigger, go smaller?
4. Placement on the transom. Is there a sweet spot on my DV hull?
5. Opinions on the Bennett Auto Trim?
6. Regarding the other control buttons: Light up indicators or not?

If any of you own or have owned a 2510 with I/O's I would be grateful for any info or input you may have on this boat.

I'm sure I will have many other questions in the days and weeks to come?

Best,

Johnny O'

24 (wide) by 9 (deep) would be perfect for the 25 hull.
I put a set of 24x9 Bennetts on my 2520 when I first bought it and never looked back.

Thank you for the feedback Megabyte. That's a very nice looking Parker. Think the 24/9's will be perfect on my boat. Now I just need some feedback on the other questions.

I originally did not have lighted indicators on my trim tab controls and it always drove me crazy not really knowing exactly how the tabs were deployed. I would recommend lighted indicators.

Once you upgrade your tabs to the larger ones, remember this...

When running an inlet or in following seas, raise your tabs to full UP.
The same goes for backing into your slip.
The larger tabs require a little more care when boat handling due to their size, but the advantages are well worth it.

Capt. K - thanks for reply and tip. In my previous boat I learned that lesson the hard way. Forgetting to bring tabs up fully a few times and the fact that one was always slower to return home caused some tense moments. The new system is supposed to automatically bring tabs up when at low rpms or idle speed so that will be a blessing. Plus with the visual indicator (lights) on control switch will be a blessing also.

Warthog, you are correct. I believe they retract at idle or low rpms using the auto Trim system, which I have opted not to do. Think I’m going to go with the Bennett Bolt system and the lighted position switch. They are about $100 less expensive than the Lenco comparable system.

They do Not retract at idle or slow speed. They retract when power is shut off to them......Like when you turn the battery switch Off......Or Shut the motor off......

I've never seen it any other way. It's a good feature. In some cases.....depending on trailer setup.....It can keep from bending the planes on the trailer bunks. In the water.....It keeps growth off the ram shafts.

Kevin,
tough to tell from your picture but are those new tabs mounted in the factory recess or outside? In other words, under the boat or outside the boat?

Outside. That is a 1996 hull. The recessed pockets for the 12x12 tabs didn't come until later.

Thanks for the photos and advice. I ordered the Lenco 9” x 24”. My boat never had trim tabs so hoping it will be a straightforward install.

Thanks for the pics Kevin.
Do you think mounting these tabs on the outside like yours would create a problem on my 08'? Leaving that recess unfilled.
Anyone tried this?

It's been so long since I've seen those pockets, I really don't know.
I first saw them at a boat show where the boats were on land.
I thought I'd taken photos, but I can't find them now.

That said, I can't imagine that it would be an issue.
As I recall, the 'pocket' isn't very deep.

The factory pockets that manufactures mold into their boats are never big enough to accomidate the correct size tabs.

If I was installing your tabs.....The pocket would be filled.

I can't find the pix's of Eddie Rings 260B Mako where he did his.
