I have a 2008 2520SLD pilot house deep v.

How does this 25 perform in the ocean ? I was thinking of purchasing either the 28 or this 2520 with the 21 degree deadrise for fall/winter rock fishing and the occasional run offshore for tuna and sharking in the summer.....I have owned a 35 and 28 Carolina in the past

thanks for any input

I fish out of Virginia Beach. I fish the ocean from Dec. on. I do not make long runs offshore, so I am not a good one to tell you. You have to remember that with a Pilot House you are seated far forward while in the pilot house so no matter what the hull deadrise is you do get a much rougher ride setting that far forward. That being said I am very satisfied with the boat. When it is cold and wet out side I am nice and cozy inside the Pilot House. I just slow down and put the nose down as far as possible, turn on the autopilot and relax. When you are warm and dry in the winter you do not mind the ride taking a little longer. I do agree with others on this board that these boats do need bigger trim tabs. Has anyone else on the board tried anything else on the market other than bigger tabs that has helped? Over all I am happy with the boat for what I use it for.

hurleyp2,

All I do is fish offshore, with the occasional overnite trip, and I honestly have to say my 1999 2520 DV has given me the confidence being way out in the Gulf Stream. I've been to the factory many times (eye candy:) and been told they made 'em real solid back then with the old Sou'westers. Particularily that model. I've fished on lots of custom sportfishers and commercial vessels, but fishing out there next to the big boys in your own boat is a very rewarding experience. I've never had that solid of a feel in any boat in that class when it gets rough on the way in. The 28 is serious and the way to go if you feel the need for more room in the house/galley/potential tower. Personally for my needs, the 2520 is awesome and very roomy! I would definately go with the deeper vee if you are thinking about making a long run, hec, even for the unexpected chop when winter rock fishing. Good luck!

Clam,

I'm curious how your DV performs with the four stroke 250. When I wanted to repower my 99 2510 DV I was told that a single 4Stroke was not recommended.

I ended up with a Zuke 250

Thanks,
Phil
