2004, 2520XL, MV, 2019 Suzi 300 one hole up from bottomed out, 3-16-17 watergrip. 41 wot with 3/4 tank and 5 adults, cruise 32 at 4400. "Getting it up"; Before launching motor all the way down, trim tabs 3 seconds down, full throttle. At 18MPH I raise tabs while adjusting motor trim for max speed at throttle setting. This is just what I do and I think should be done with respect to tabs etc. , I've run into people who never knew the tabs help in a launch so I figured I'd cover that. I plane almost immediately, to about 30 seconds depending on load, light load ya better hang on tight! Your prop at 18.5 is what I started with, you're overpitched.
I just repowered my 2003 2520XL, MV, Armstrong bracket, with a Suzi 300, 3x16x17 Watergrip, so the same setup unless you don't have a bracket. Curious what you wot rpms are. Seems like I'm still a bit over propped. I can just barely hit 5700 rpms in nearly perfect conditions. WOT range is supposed to be 5700 to 6300. I run heavy and will continue to operate that way so I want to get this right, currently at 50 hours.

I have a 1988 2520 and also just re-powered with the Suzuki 300 with a new Armstrong bracket. We had to try 3 different props before we nailed it. I now run a
15 1/2 x 17 she is running 6250 WOT with a 43 mph speed. my cruise at 4400 is about 33-35. My dealer was happy with those stats. Took a while but you do want to get it right. Good luck

What brand prop did you settle on?

Ok, I stand corrected. Was going by what the Suzuki dealer told me..... Based on my wot of barely touching 5700 with the 3x16x17, and the correct range being 5700 to 6300, that 3x15 1/2x17 should be perfect... Thank you,

I dealt last year with that original prop. Things have to change now. Full tank of gas(180 gallons) and 7 people. Never got on plane today. Couldn’t push the boat past 15 mph. I want to puke. 300 Suzuki on a bracket

I am so sorry to hear that. We have run ours with a full tank or close (110 gallons) 5- 12v batteries and 3 people and we were on plane in 5 seconds and we could top out at 42 mph and cruise at 32 at 4400 RPM. We were always achieving these stats, but could not get RPM's over 5800. We are at 6250 now with the 15 1/2x17. My dealer was very involved and diligent about getting the prop just right. tried 3 other props before settling in on this one.
We are a 1988 2520 totally rehab'd. I never heard of 180 gallon tank on a 2520. Thats a lot of weight

Hi Meappollo, you mentioned you had not heard of a 180 gallon tank on a 2520. Our 2013 2520 XLD, (and with a 2014 300 Yamaha), has a 200 gallon tank. (and it does NOT have that contraption that limits fuel intake). Like you, we also cruise at 30-32 at around 4200 RPM, and top out at 42-43 depending on sea-state and wind conditions.... But, best I remember, our top RPM is about 5850....

Wow. I was unaware the newer boats had such high fuel capacities. Depending on who's motor you are running you are at the lower end of your top RPM. Suzuki wants it to be 5900 to 6300. If you are Yamaha I think you are right about there though if I remember correctly

Your dealer was talking about Pitch.......Not Diameter.

This is Why being concise is important.

Ok. I question only because when I was bottom painting I noticed a stamped "max HP of 250" on bottom of the bracket. Maybe a 300 would have no effect on that??

I am no expert, but I would think it could handle it, but I looked and I do not have that on my bracket anywhere. Mine was custom made for the boat and motor from Armstrong
