I am going to look at a 2820 with twin yamaha 250's, vintage 2006.
Can anyone share their experience on fuel burn at cruise, troll, or wide open.
Any issues with this setup?
Also, can you troll this set up slow enough for rock fishing?

Thanks,
bhl

Just got back from 3 day weekend. Thanks for the reply. I am moving down from a 36 that gets .7 mpg. I was looking to double that and try for at least 1.5 mpg. How do you like your 28 off shore? Can you slow down enough to troll for rockfish at 2 mph?

Thanks
bhl

Sorry gotta get my giggles out......

I always bust my buddies from NC when they call it a "Rock Fish" sorry to bust on you ...I just get a chuckle out of it .....

Why r they called that down there any way? often wondered but never asked?

Rock fish are vast and many, blue , yellow , red, .....just google "pictures of rock fish" you will see em all

As for trolling for STRIPED BASS/ROCK FISH, yes if you need to go that slow then one motor will be perfect

Do you need to go that fast for economy , if i slow down to 3600-3800 in calm seas im still doing 22 mph at 1.79 gph ...i thought that was pretty good......

Post some pictures....

Ill be adding my customized live well in two or three weeks....

bhl... put your location in your profile so we know where you are located.

'Rockfish' is the term we use for striped bass here in the Chesapeake.
Call it a 'striped bass' here, and we know you aren't a local.

So Mega, y do they call them rock fish down there, in 30 yrs of fishing i never really asked any one, and after doing some research i would even begin to understand y based on the "loose" use of the name to describe as many as 30 different species......is there a really good reason or just a "local" term"....???

Local term.

Guess it's because they hang on structure... on the rocks.
Just a guess... but that is what they are known as here.

Nobody local calls them a striped bass (except for B-Faithful). :)

lol ok , i know im getting old but dont most fish stick by structure???

Dont answer im totally confused, but curious as to y ill ask my cousins in NC and my uncle in SC and c what they come up with ......

they have stripes and r bass so i thought that stripers/striped bass fit well , i thought the "rock" was something but oh well .....

U can tell i'm bored , i spackeled and painted the basement (moved my office ) little guy is due to arrrive in 3 weeks....not to much fishing after this weekend till after my son is born......

Being in Maryland, I am looking to run the Chesapeake as well as doing some off shore fishing for tuna, dolphin etc. I want to get out of the flybridge and have a single level boat. I need enough range and speed to run 120 miles round trip and troll all day. It sounds like the 28 can do it. I wanted some input from an experienced owner that has run offshore in the 28. Any info appreciated.
Good luck with your new guy. Mine are 28 and 24. Man it goes by fast.

I have taken it on the ocean 60 miles each way in a day and cant complain,

It takes a while to get the trim right and soon as i can i am going to put larger tabs on as far as economy goes i thing its great ...

i just fished in a shark tournament in a 32 regulator with twins ....90 mile round trip two days in a row....... used well over 198 gallons, how ever we were pushing 34 mph...... thats .901 mpg ive done similar trip and @ 32-33 mph averaging 1.11 mpg loaded down with 4 guys 4 bushels of ice 10 rods 2 coolers 100 lb of lead 200 of gear and 250 gallons of fuel.....

There are times i do wish i had a down east when it gets rough .... but im all around pretty darn happy so far.... i bought it in october and have all ready put 160 hours on it !!!!

Thanks, that is the info I am looking for.
The factory called me today with some fuel burn numbers.
3500 rpm - 26 mph @ 1.93 gph
4000 rpm - 34 mph @ 1.84 mpg,
4500 rpm - 38 mph @ 1.65 mpg.
The guy I talked to admitted that these were no payload, calm day numbers. I did get a look at the 28 today and was impressed at the size of the cockpit and plenty enough room inside.

i only did one short trip light, 2 men 2 bushels of ice 120 gallons a few rods went round trip on a super calm day....about 36 to 40 mph and averaged about 1.4 to 1.65 .....

the trip was from Montauk to block island SSW a few miles (7-8) total was about 40 miles
