Hi all,

I need a new anchor for my 2120, I thought I would ask everyone's opinion on what size anchor they recommend. I fish the Long Island Sound which can whip up 2-4ft, and I want to make sure I choose wisely, as I know the Parker is a heavy craft.

Thank you in advance!

I am new around here and just bought a 21SE but I can tell you from experience that the right heavy long chain is your friend when anchoring. I have 16 feet of chain on my anchor. I fished anchored alone alot on my old boat and it will hold in 15-20 NE 3-4 footers in the lower Chesapeake Bay cobia fishing.

West, Wow, 16ft! My 18CC had a 8lbs achor with maybe 5ft of chain, seemed to hold in the worst of it. My Parker is so heavy, and not very wind resistant. I am not sure how big an anchor I should get. What size is yours? I willd definetely put the longer chain on there. My poor son is going to get a work out this year.

OK I posted this on another thread

But here you go Ron

I use a Claw or Bruce 10KGS or 22lb with 16 ft of 1/4 inch SS chain and New England Rope 5/8 three strand
I have a bow pulpit and roller and have no problems I use 5/8 for comfort thicker diameter in hand much better

If I was to do over I would only change one thing to the recommended length of boat to chain to 21 ft
However I have no issues with the set up I have

I am partial to a claw anchor although
I dive and I have seen a few different anchor's set in different bottom types
I must say a Claw or Bruce anchor IMO is the best
With that said the chain is just as important to properly lay the rode down and abrasions resistance
The reason I went with SS chain is that since we dont have a windless that drops the chain straight
down the locker hole I didn't want rust on the pulpit I had on other boats

I have 30' of 1/4" chain for my 2320. IMHO your length of chain is as important as your anchor. 30' may seem like over kill and without a windlass i wouldnt use that much but, plain and simple it works. I've used both a 12lb Delta plow anchor and Danforth anchor with no issues.

I think it is a #8 anchor 8 or 9 pounds about 22 inches total length. I just dropped of the boat today having a couple things check so I can't go look at it now. The chain is the main link in the whole system (little pun).

Thanks everyone for the input. Sounds like the key is the long chain and I like the SS chain. my old locker was orange.

SS chain if fine but at 21' $$$, may sugest galvanized too, works very well and I have not had a rust issue with galv chain while not washing down or anything like that after trips.

I have a 2320 I use a 11# Fortress 15' 1/4" chain. I never had a problem anchoring in 2'-4' waves I would suggest at least 10' of chain. I used this set up on my last boat 27' Baha cruiser Cat no problems

2520: Fortress FX23, 25' of 3/8" chain, 300' of 3-strand 7/16" nylon
18' skiff: 13# Danforth HT 18' of 1/4" chain, 100' of 3-strand 5/16" nylon
42' Wesmac: 205# Navy, 40' of 3/4" chain, 500' of 8-plait 3/4" Tug discard towline.

Length of chain, imho, should be nearly equal to hull length. Line size should be 1/16" above chain size. 8-plait is awesome, and stows much more nicely. Size anchor according to your overall length (not length at waterline) and go up a size. If you get caught with your pants down, an anchor is often the only thing between your boat and the rocks, so don't skimp on line, chain, or anchor. Also, don't forget chafe gear.
