Use to love my anchor windless on a 2510 Parker until I lost the anchor in a hang while bottom fishing with my kids. Never had a problem keeping the anchor line on the windless or retrieiving it.

I spliced in a new chain and anchor shortly after but have found the rode will not pick up well at all once it gets beyond the splice at the chain. It also slips out unless I have a keeper chain on it. Is the chain requirement on these windlesses size specific? I may have gone too large..

Yes each one takes a specific size chain and rope, find your model # and you can find the correct size !

Absolutely, the chain, line AND splice type make a difference.

Here's what I learned after trial and error: Use exactly what the manual calls for! In my case, I have a Lewmar and it specifically states:

1) Do not use a hard splice.

2) Use 8 plait line

3) Use the exact chain the manual calls for. Not all 1/2" chain is the same.
The inside diameter between links can be different. If not sure, buy a foot or so of various chains and lay them in the teeth of your windlass. It must fit perfectly, no slop.

If you have a Lewmar, the specs can be found in the online manual.

Good Luck.
