for using 4200 and 5200, to make an even bead ? I use alot of dap and with a wet cloth and water I can make it look flawless, is there anything to make spreading 4200 or 5200 easer, I tried a beading tool today and it worked good till it fell apart, so any trick you care to share !!!!!

Water and a splash of dish detergent :D !

Now that said, what on earth are you gooping on that much? Even when I do my deck hatches, I goop on as evenly as possible, set in place, but do NOT torque the hardware, come back in about 1/3rd to 1/2 the 'cure' time, and use the water/soap trick.

Hi Dale, every year, winter, I remove my 68 gallon bait tank and replace hoses, hose clamps and reinstall, fill with water and food color and test for leaks before I reseal :) this year I am trying to install like a pro :):):) and make the bead of 4200 around where the tank meets the deck look somewhat better :) so today I got a beading tool and it fell apart about a 1/4 of the way around, so that is what I am doing and trying to make look a little better !! just doing those yearly maintance stuff, yesterday I took out all my accessory connections ( wiring ) for my radar, radios, gps etc and installed new connectors and heat shrank, turned out and looks pretty nice, all this stuff I learn on this web site, Sooooooooooooo Thanks :) and you know what I mean :):):):):):) 8)

I would def. agree with dale with the dish detergent!! I learned that trick using joint compound when doing sheet rock walls it works really well just dont put to much or it will be to lose!!But that should do the trick for you!!!

I have not tried the dish detergent trick. I usually use my finger dipped in solvent, Alcohol or Acetone, Thinner, etc.

The best thing I found is to tape the join with masking tape only exposing the area where you want the 4200 to go, apply, wipe with finger, let it tack up for 20-30min then pull the tape.

I did my Bathtub to Tile joint this way and it looks like a factory application. Just be aware the more 4200/5200 you use it will swell slightly as it cures. The taping takes a bit longer but the results speak for themselves. Try it.

Here we go now you have a few different way to try see what you like best!!!

I use an old pair of white cotton underwear or white T-shirt stretched over a finger, then wetted with 3M adhesive remover. Run that over the fresh bead and you can easily smooth it out. The adhesive remover cuts the fresh 4200/5200 like a hot knife through butter.
